Researchers have found a compound in the blueberry that lowers cholesterol just as effectively as commercial drugs, with the added advantage of fewer side effects, according to a new study by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The compound, called pterostilbene, shows promise as a natural medicine to lower cholesterol in patients that don't respond well to conventional drugs, according to the researchers.
Lead study author, Dr. Agnes M. Rimando said the compound may be "a potent weapon against obesity and heart disease."
Pterostilbene, an antioxidant, is similar to resveratrol, which is found in grapes and red wine, also believed to lower cholesterol.

Very cool!
The next thing to be found is insurance costs on blueberries will be an issue!
That's good to hear. I love blueberries.
So blueberry pancakes and red wine for dinner is actually good for me???
As soon as they declare that butterburgers are good for you, I'll be happy.

Apparently, if you do something about the other pancake
ingredients. Eliminate the saturated and trans-fatty
acids (butter substitutes). Eliminate the cholesterol
(use fake eggs), and add some soy protein for balance.
That's what we do. Taste great. Less filling, or
something like that.
I would rather have blueberries, but the problem is that blueberries cost way more than my cholestrol medication.
Wouldn't you know...I HATE blueberries!
Apparently. And if you pour tomato sauce over your pancakes, the lycopene it contains will add astonishing health benefits.
Moral of the story: Fruits and veggies are better for you than Eli Lilly any day of the week.
butter is better for you than fake butter. Eggs have been shown to have benefits (I think up to 2 per day was the guideline). They can even be made to be lower cholesterol eggs based on the feed given to the chickens.
I am sure some nutritional supplement places will extract the active ingredient and will start selling it as a supplement shortly.
John Kerry has a blueberry plan. When elected everybody will get free blueberries.
After the federal "cheese" program of the past, I'm sure it will be a political hit for him!
No, when Kerry becomes President, diseases and death will be immediately abolished by decree from King Kerry. At that point, there will be no need for blueberries.
Ok so will eating Blueberry pie work or does it have to be raw Blueberries?
Doubtless they will be non-formulary.
