BUMP
Ah yes, the info ad's featuring a PhD telling us that "blueberries" will extend our life span to 160!
I know that it sounds like conspiracy theory talk, but it is odd that there is very little research in the medicinal qualities of plants.
It may be that they cannot be patented, so there is no financial incentive to do so. Part of the reason of course is that many advocates for herbal medicines tend to be a bit flaky. Also there are charlatans out there as well.
I would avoid buying the exhobitantly expensive herbal extracts offered in stores. Instead do your research and try to get the fruits and vegetables, teas etc. that have medicinal qualities so that there is more certainty of what you're getting.
At least you cannot overdose on oranges.
Probably have to eat a gallon a day or something like that...

NO it won't work!
One has to quit their productive job, migrate to Canada, or a place synonymous, and pick them!
This message has been brought to you by the American Blueberry Board.
I love blueberries. So, was greatly deflated - when learning that it takes around seven years for a blueberry tree/bush to begin to bear fruit. Heard that on a Food show, so if you know any blueberries that might not take so long....
Is why they cost so much???$$$???
> butter is better for you than fake butter.
Well, most "fake butter" is margarine, and I agree with
your posture on that (trans-fatty acids, etc.).
But the product we use is olive-oil based.
That depends upon what one's definition of "formulary" is in a political sense.
formulary doesn't even have to be a word to be effective in a political sense.
Actually there are some people who rely on scientific evidence.

In their articles, they usually give several papers from medical journals.
But they don't have anything on pterostilbene yet.
I bet they have no knowlege on another PhD derived invention which could save the lives of millions and extend the lives of poor souls who suffer from a lack of exercise.
The "Tungsten cowhide turbo encabulator"!
It can be a life saver if promoted properly.

Blueberries May Restore Some Memory, Coordination and Balance Lost with Age
By Judy McBride
September 10, 1999
WASHINGTON, Sept. 10--A diet rich in blueberry extract reversed some loss of balance and coordination and improved short-term memory in aging rats, according to a USDA study to be published in the Sept. 15 issue of the Journal of Neuroscience.
If this finding holds for humans, it should further encourage consumption of fruits and vegetables high in antioxidants to help fight the effects of aging, said Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman.
Daily for eight weeks, researchers fed extracts of blueberry, strawberry or spinach to 19 month-old rats, age-equivalent to 65 or 70 year-old humans. All three extracts improved short-term memory. Only the blueberry extract improved balance and coordination.
This is the first study that shows fruits and vegetables actually reversing dysfunctions in behavior and in nerve cells.

Thanks. I'll check them out.
Diet, not drugs, is the best course.
And smoking too! There have been some studies to show the nicotine can delay the onset of Alzheimers.
