French police sources said that after they received the U.S. information, six people were questioned but no one was arrested. All of the men had tickets for Air France Flight 68 to Los Angeles and were on a watch list provided by U.S. authorities, an Interior Ministry spokesman said.

This quote is taken verbatim from the CNN story. As you can see, France was informed which flights and who the terrorist were but France turned them loose after questioning them.

Of course they let them go; these aren't schoolgirls wearing religious accoutrements, y'know.

I have a bad feeling about this.

Actually, the French tried to surrender to these guys, but they said they were busy and may stop back by after they finished their business in the US. The French were relieved.

Those interrogated were selected because they were on a list of names supplyed by the U.S. Another man, a Tunisian national with a pilot's licence, was on the U.S.'s list of suspects.
French intelligence officials determined the man was in Tunisia, had no plans to leave, no criminal record, and no known history of associations with Islamic militant groups.

I thought that might be what happened when the French flight cancellations were announced yesterday. It would be much too risky to let these planes fly and then take them on at this end. If nothing else, it would risk killing all the passengers. So we HAD to notify the French and let them handle it.
My guess at this point is that the people in question were flying under false names, and the French released them with that excuse.
If this is the case, it's time to stop playing patty-cake with France and put them on our enemies list.

he was in tunisia with no plans to leave yet was booked on an air france flight. and we americans is the stupid ones...

I wonder if the people who were detained had the same or similar names to those on terror watch lists but after being investigated/questioned, it turned out that they weren't the ones who the U.S. was watching.
I just don't think the we would let possible terrorists walk away that easily.

May have been stolen identity...... but apparently if it was then whoever it was to be using it didn't show it seems.

One of the problems with being "Pro-Active" is that you will never be able to prove that the problem, that you stopped by being pro-active, may have occurred. The problem did not happen, because you acted in a pro-active manner.
It is very hard to prove to dis-believers that being pro-active was a wise and prudent move. After all--"the problem never happened, so what were you worried about?".

French intelligence officials... Oxymoron city.
To: go star go
Yes, I know that. I just don't think we'd just allow France to these people to walk without being sure that they were not a threat. It's quite possible that the FBI had someone(s) in Paris to either interview, or at least, observe these people during questioning.
