Marco Rubio Is Not “Surging in the Polls,” Shows No Signs of Actual Momentum
Slate ^ | October 9, 2015 | Josh Voorhees

Following a second strong, if understated, debate performance late last month, Marco Rubio is currently riding a wave of positive press. He is “surging in the polls,” has “the hot hand,” and is even emerging as “the favorite to win the GOP presidential nomination.”

With the summer of Trump coming to a close, it seems, we are at the cusp of a new stage of the campaign where the non-silly-season favorites begin to assert themselves and the race finally gets serious. And there is good reason why that means Rubio’s stock is on the rise: With Scott Walker out and Jeb Bush giving his own backers serious heartburn, Rubio is the only member of the GOP establishment’s former Big Three who appears to be heading in the right direction. As New York magazine’s Benjamin Wallace-Wells correctly put it Friday, "it is startling how well the race has gone for Rubio so far." If not Marco, the logic goes, then who?

The thing is: The race hasn’t gone that well for Rubio. Personally, I’m largely on board with this Rubio-will-win-by-default line of thinking. But it’s worth noting given the current hype cycle that, to date, he has yet to translate the buzz into anything tangible. Put simply, there just isn’t a whole lot of concrete evidence to suggest that Marco’s current “momentum” is much more than the product of the wishful thinking of a nervous Republican Party and the predictions of a bored political press corp....

Just as Trump is not falling in the polls.

The media is trying to whip the primary in the direction they want it to go, and they are failing.

The only Cheap Labor Express candidate that has gained in the polls is Carson.

Rubio’s career was finished when he started hanging out with the Gang of Eight

Amnesty Rubio is not going anywhere.

Fox News has become a joke with their obvious propaganda.

Rubio has a big flaw. He trusted Schumer and company and its really hard to get past that. He has managed to hold on because he is both an attractive candidate and a well spoken one. I really used to love Rubio and Rand Paul but both have become such tools. I’d still vote for them before Bush or Kasich but I no longer have any passion for them. Rubio if he can woo Bush funders to his side may have a chance but if he doesn’t he will go the way of Paul. I don’t see Bush giving up the ghost till after New Hampshire but I do believe his supporter will eventually bail because if Jeb or Rubio don’t win Florida they are going to have a hell of a time making the case for continuing their candidacies.

No Signs of Actual Momentum

Media are about as hapless as the GOPElites. The candidates they are pushing don't seem to be making any advancements. The Media is likely worried they have lost their ability to influence.

They pushed Kasich as the miracle winner of the 1st debate. Since then, Kasich has remained in the single digits.

They pushed Fiorina as the miracle winner of the 2nd debate. Since then, Fiorina seems to be struggling to stay within double digits of Trump.

Recently they have been trial-ballooning Rubio as Bush sinks.

And Trump is still making headlines and leading in most of the polls.

The flaw in this article is the old thinking about a silly season and that Trump is not serious. Every leading candidate has never held elected office. We just kicked out Boehner and denyed McCarthy the speakership. What makes the author think voters are being silly and will fall in line?

Rubio would be a great president...so would Cruz...

then again, so would have Rudy, or Fred Thompson....

but Trump and the rat cabal are doing what they are paid to do: destroy pub candidates early on.....

why is Trump attacking republicans and not attacking bammy, hitlery, Bernie, etc 24/7?

I support Rubio and Cruz and Carson....no one is perfect, buy perfect is not attainable....

you folks are going to hate Trump and what he does, if he indeed becomes the president...

but I really think he is seeking and destroying and paving the way for Hitlery...

Politically speaking, the only thing that can give the gop-e a chance, is for Bush to drop out. But, Bush and the gope are too obstinate.

Rubio is the neocons’ boy. They have the $$$ and the media.

He sounds like a sissy, but that's not his fault (upper-class Spanish speakers have a kind of lisp. Cruz has it to a lesser extent). It makes him a terrible candidate.

He's a bright guy. But, he obviously decided that he will out war-monger everyone else to get the neocon/Cheney/Bush/McCain power base. And the strategy is working. Just watch the neocon press pretend how brilliant he is ... when he isn't. If you like Rubio, you'll LOVE Lindsey Graham.

You want your kids to fight Russian kids in Ukraine & Syria? Vote for this whore.
