Donald Trump is dropping in the early states — with very different beneficiaries
The Washington Post's The Fix ^ | October 5, 2015 | Philip Bump

Donald Trump is starting to drop hints about a world in which he is not a presidential candidate. In an interview on "Meet the Press" on Sunday, Trump said that he'd quit the race if his poll number started to drop. Talking to the Times, he bemoaned what a Trump-less race would look like: boring. "There’d be a major collapse of the race, and there’d be a major collapse of television ratings," he told the Times's Michael Barbaro. "It would become a depression in television." He's probably not wrong.

Polling released in concert with that "Meet the Press" interview shows that Trump's recent national decline is also mirrored in two key early primary states. At the end of August, NBC (working with Marist College) had Trump at 29 percent in Iowa and 28 in New Hampshire. The new survey (working with the Wall Street Journal) has him at 24 and 21, respectively. Putting those in the context of other recent polls, you can see the dip...

Speaking of "cherry-picking," I love how they have hundreds of dweebs pouring over every poll that comes out to cherry-pick negatives about Trump, Carson and Cruz.

I think he means if his poll numbers were down to 1-2% - they will skewer the polls in order to get him to drop out. He needs to clarify this position.

This is the new strategy to get rid of Trump. The constant drumbeat that he is dropping in polls.

All BS.

Maybe this is Donald taking a whack at all the hanger-ons down in the one or two percent range. He’s telling them to just take off.

Of course, !Yeb! has also fallen like a rock. So the real effect is to promote the absurd idea that iCarly or Ruberio are within striking distance, since Carson sure isn’t who they want.

“Trump said that he’d quit the race if his poll number started to drop.”

Um. I don’t think that is at all, what he said.

What a bunch of hooie.

Every other GOP candidate wishes they were dropping in the polls like Trump is. LOL!

I just heard Trump on Levin’s radio show this evening, and I have to say this man sounded outstanding.

He is really honing his delivery or how he presents his ideas.

This is a good man, and a solid candidate.

I can see why the scurrying cockroaches and slithering snakes want him gone.

... because all the media games to knock him down have been so effective!

(Trump's not leaving)

So many in the media and politics from both sides would just LOVE to count Trump out. Then they could just back to the trite Jeb vs Hillary bore fest.

Hmmm. Interesting.

I’m in the Iowa/Nebraska area and almost all the folks I know and deal with love Trump.

Just my observance...

Trump never should have praised and legitimatized the crooked polls to begin with. They were setting him up for the dishonest anti Trump push polls.

True, but they have been playing around with the polling for a long time now.

This morning FOX had a poll and Trump was still first, Snarly now second and Jeb in third.

Huh? Did Carson drop off the planet?

Look, Trumps New York shtick is not wearing well in flyover country. If you want your guy to win tell him to stop the juvenile behavior. We already have had 7 years of that.

“I think he means if his poll numbers were down to 1-2%”

-—That’s exactly what Trump said, if his poll numbers tanked and he was at 1% he would drop out since there would be no path to victory polling that low.
