I think this is a great idea and is worth the try. The neighboring counties could also adopt this curfew. I don’t know about your neighborhood, but in mine kids are roaming the streets at all hours of the night stealing from homes and cars. It’s out of hand. Drastic measures are in need.

Feral animals care nothing about a curfew.

What they need to do is to look if the kids are in two parents homes... If not, send them to military school.

I know, too extreme...

Best Idea though. What will ever be done with all these Feral children spawned by the welfare programs?

“Well, what do you propose?”

Bring Christian missionaries from all over the globe and send them to this spiritual wasteland.

The fundamental problem here is depleted moral capital.

Fix that, and everything improves.

Democrats do things that spike crime then they order people into their homes in response.

tied the Police Department’s Hands

I punched out of northern PG County twenty years ago. Back then, the PG County Police had a nasty reputation for brutality. "If you don't police yourselves, you'll get policed and you won't like it." The PG County Police didn't police themselves ...

PG County was a sewer more than thirty years ago, when I moved there. I routinely got propositioned for the sale of drugs just walking across the street from my apartment to the 7-11. It's sort of amazing that I was never personally the victim of any crime ... just witnessed a lot of crime, gang activity, and a general sense of lawlessness. I didn't really realize how bad it was until I moved to a saner location.

I don’t know where you lived, but I’ve been here all my life and never experienced being propositioned for drugs, never was a victim of crime -except having my car registration sticker stolen; and all my interactions with police have been positive.

It is certainly not what it was when I was young, and all of us have progressively exercised more caution (I would not send my child to the public schools here, for instance). But a lot of it has to do with how you conduct yourself and with whom you associate.

I lived in Laurel.

ever was a victim of crime -except having my car registration sticker stolen

'I never was a victim of a crime, except when I was a victim of a crime' ...

all my interactions with police have been positive.

You're lucky. And I didn't have any negative interactions with them either. In fact, I didn't have any interactions with them at all. But don't try to pretend that the PG County Police didn't have a rotten reputation during the later Parris Glendenning and Wayne Curry days.

how you conduct yourself and with whom you associate.

Being an upstanding citizen doesn't change the general atmosphere of criminality and lawlessness.

As far as juveniles committing crime, the legislators aren’t helping. One of the County officials was complaining about that yesterday - the laws aren’t strict enough with the kids who do wrong, it’s all just a revolving door of arrest and release and re-arrest.

Beyond that, it’s really up to the Black community. White people can’t ‘fix’ what’s wrong with many Black families.

Hey Jackass! (sorry, but that's the name of the site).

Take a look at the "2022 Homicide Map" of Chicago ... note that some neighborhoods have zero homicides, and some have many. Based on previous years statistics, a few of those violent neighborhoods will exceed 50 homicides before years end. The handful of light blue neighborhoods on the map doesn't change the fact that Chicago is a sewer. PG County is similar.

“PG County is similar.” Grew up in Greenbelt. At one point I lived in Annapolis but worked in PG/Beltsville. On my drive home down RT 50 I would be glad to cross over into Anne Arundel county line, I figured if I died now, It wouldn’t be in PG county and linked to my death. True.

There is no place you can go where you can be guaranteed that you won’t be a victim of a petty crime like having a registration stolen, or even possibly violent crime.

I don’t recall hearing anything about police here having a ‘rotten reputation’, but I probably had no reason to hear. There are lousy cops everywhere who taint the rest.

The richest black county in America is Charles county Maryland

The poorest white majority county in the USA is Owsley county in SE Kentucky

Charles county violent crime rate is 21/100,000

Owsley county is 7/100,000

Reality

I can remember Trump was blamed for contaminated Peanut Butter, High winds, homeless setting fires at their illegal grow, rains, shootings, carjackings, and cold waves.

You forgot to mention creeping crud, jungle rot, and fallen arches

To many of these dim “run” sh*tholes do not want a crime free neighborhood. Instead, they want a neighborhood where they are free to commit crimes.

You are right, the community has to clean itself up, and maybe tightening the laws. Breakdown of the family and loss of shared traditional values - those can’t be repaired by the lawmakers. Restoration of the latter would probably achieve more than any law, regulation or curfew. Self control in society is more effective to community tranquility than arrests, threats of punishment, etc by the legal system.

Reality is that for decades now family and traditional values have been under siege by media (e.g. ridicule fathers, despise traditional values, anti-Christian) and even givernment (e.g. welfare, public “education” run like truancy lock-up) We reap what we sow.
