Pachelbel Rant
Youtube ^ | Nov 21, 2006 | RobPRocks

I am sure that many FReepers know this video;

Classical music 1 hit wonder, Pachelbel's Canon

I prefer it played by flutes and/or trumpets... or quintet strings...

(or totally by piano)

I enjoy how Rob puts it into perspective (about how current day music uses the past music, and how nothing is original anymore).

KEYWORDS: classical; humor; pachelbel
I watch at watch this vid at least once a month (I love classical music + the comedy included)..

I think this song by Blues Traveler summed it up.

Thanks for this - I was laughing out loud .... my cousin is a symphony quality cello player (sent it to her) & Pachelbel is probably one of my very favorite pieces ... London Symphony is the version I like best. I actually had a London Symphony album (back in the good old days) with Pachelbel on it & I think I about wore it out. A friend on mine named her dog ‘Canon’ - she loved Pachelbel, too. :-)

I do envy people who can play an instrument(s). I love music, baroque in particular, but play no instruments. My mom plays the piano by ‘ear’, full chords - it’s a remarkable gift. I didn’t get that gift & wasn’t much good at sight reading so I readily gave up piano lessons for a pony at age 12. I did have horsemanship skills so it turned out to be a good tradeoff.

I can read music (bass and treble), but not at same time (piano), and not guitar (can/could play by ear only).

Could never play banjo (my dad did, along with guitar.. said he learned in ‘Nam).

I picked up piano at the age of 66 after a lifetime of trying and quitting over and over. I even had a famous pianist as an instructor. Just couldn’t do it. Then I found the Alfred’s adult piano course on Amazon. Success! I am just finishing the first book and am playing beautifully, given my beginner’s level. You Tube has fantastic tutorials based on the book, too. Don’t give up!

It’s true, it’s everywhere in music. I can catch it every time...

Blues Traveler. All these years I thought I was the only one to notice that.

I may be the only one, but, to me, Canon is the most repetitive, boring piece of "Classical" music I know. I just can't listen to it anymore.

When taco bell came out with a big burrito called “The Bazooka”, I renamed it “Taco Bell’s Cannon.”

The cello is the heartbeat of the piece.

I actually use Pachelbel’s Canon (transposed to C) to teach kids how to Improvise melodies on Piano & Guitar. I play it on Bass, which is as boring as playing it on cello.

The kids always come up with something new.

Pachelbel’s Canon.

I prefer it played by using a bat to bash in the sheet music til it’s pulpy, then put in a firepit and burned. Then the remains dumped in acid until they are gone.

For clarity, I use to play in a handbell choir and we played the Canon in D many many many times. It’ got to a point where we all declared we would never play it again...and we didn’t
