NY Post ^ | October 30, 2021 | By Patrick Reilly

The object was first spotted by the Catalina Sky Survey, which works to identify threatening asteroids, according to CNET.

A simulation shows just how close the space rock came to the planet.

The object, about 6.6 feet in diameter, was likely to have mostly burned up had it struck the atmosphere, according to reports. It was undetected until hours after it had passed the planet, as it had approached from the direction of the sun, blocking it from scientists’ view.

I don’t think a refrigerator-sized “asteroid” represents an existential threat.

Depends on what it's stocked with

This one.
It can survive atmosphere entry, powerful landings, and even lead lined for nuclear radiation!

Yes, but you'll have to be willing to "Trepilicate" with them first...

Fridge sized? This is a scare tactic headline. Bolides of that size frequently burn up in the atmosphere. Depending on the trajectory, it most likely would bounce off the atmosphere.

“An asteroid impact is the only national disaster that can be prevented.”

I don’t know about that. What about ‘She Who Shall Not Be Named’? She lost the 2016 election.

Most likely not. If it made it to somewhere populated on earth it would just take out a couple square city blocks.

The one that hit in AZ (Meteor Crater) was about a 100 ft in dia.

“Refrigerator-sized asteroid”? Nope, that’s just not going to be big enough to do the job (sigh).

Interesting how we have read in the past (usually after previous near Earth asteroid approaches) that there is no "near Earth objects" that could be a potential threat to us for at least 26 years or such and then woooooooosh....
