An ancient, meteorite, or achondrite, was discovered in the Sahara desert last year that has now been identified as chunk from a protoplanet that formed before Earth came into existence.
The space rock, named EC 002, dates back 4.6 billion years and consists mostly of volcanic rock, leading experts to believe it came from the crust of a very early planet....

A lot of assumptions. The radioactive isotope uranium-238 has a half-life of 4.47 billion years. That is one of the tools. Lets say they find a piece uranium-238 is near its first half life. The assumptions are it didn't arrive as a comet. Or a sun flare and deposit it. There are methods that we use to speed up the decay which means in nature this could take place.
Analysis of radioactive isotope ratios. Since radioactive elements decay at known rates, determining the ratios is like gauging the age of a campfire by evaluating the heat and ratio of ash to wood.

If you believe in God Almighty, no. If you dont, then yes. If the Author of Time and the earth and the stars says a thing then it is so. Period. And you must alter your opinion to His statement. This is why it is so handy to dismiss God as a figment; He then has no authority and you can do as you please.
These are always dumb articles. Maybe they can take a core sample in the hopes of finding evidence of past microbes on it....

Actually, no, for believers. This meteorite did not land here 4.6 billion years ago. Scientists only claim that this particular meteorite is that old. That is not the same thing as stating it’s been on Earth for 4.6 Billion Years (which is impossible since for non-believers, the Earth would have still been MOLTEN at that time.)
