THE CRYSTAL WEAPONS OF PREHISTORIC SPAIN
The Daily Grail ^ | 09/06/2018 | Greg

Even in modern times we are fascinated by crystals – from the diamonds we use as a sacred symbol of partnership, to the plethora of ‘healing’ gems that can be found in a New Age gift shop. So we can only imagine how ancient people viewed these transparent rocks with hidden structure.

Evidence of the esteem in which crystals were held can be found in a “remarkable set” of ‘crystal weapons’ found in the megalithic tombs of southwestern Spain. At the site of Valencina de la Concepcion, archaeologists have uncovered crystal arrowheads, an exquisite dagger blade, and cores used for creating the artifacts, that date to the 3rd millennium BCE.

The Montelirio tholos, excavated between 2007 and 2010, is “a great megalithic construction…which extends over 43.75 m in total”, constructed out of large slabs of slate. At least 25 individuals were interred within the structure , along with “an extraordinary set of sumptuous grave goods…the most notable of which is an unspecified number of shrouds or clothes made of tens of thousands of perforated beads and decorated with amber beads”. Additionally however, a large number of crystal arrowheads were found together, which be suggestive of a ritual offering at an altar. The arrowheads have the characteristic long lateral appendices of flint arrowheads from the area – but investigators remarked that “even greater skill must have been required to produce these unique features when using rock crystal.”

shrouds or clothes made of tens of thousands of perforated beads and decorated with amber beads

The fact that people in the 2000s B.C. had time to make these non-utilitarian items seems to indicate that their subsistence needs were more than covered.

How many refrigerator magnets can you use?

Try some flint knapping glass, fun and you can always glue it to a magnet!

I used copper tubing and plate window glass.
Once it gets going, easy peasy!
Wear glasses.

Even works with old Blatz beer bottle glass.

I found the article on the Facebook page Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. People are assigning attributes to the dagger.

i would stat it like the rod of 7 parts artifact -- Pommel is the jaw bone of a lich ( power:detect undead 3xday cast at 18th level,Hilt - cast of mithral ( power: speak with dead 2xday cast at 18th level - Diamond dagger blade ( power: operates as a hat of difference - necromancer- allowing user to put any portion of experience they earn into it to attain levels as a necromancer) the pommel acts as a compass to locate the hilt and the hilt will locate the blade. pommel and hilt together will give the user +1 intelligence in addition to the other powers and the hilt and blade will give the user the ability of a scroll of protection from undead 1xday and all 3 pieces together will become a +3 dagger with the ability to charm undead as per the spell cast at 18th level 3xday

I think Dragon Glass was black so this could be opaque Dinosaur Glass.

Try some flint knapping glass.

I think that would be messy in my living room. I give the needlepoint magnets away. They say "JESUS," "HOPE," "PEACE," and stuff like that ... whatever I can chart out in block letter in the available space.

You’re not really knapping if you have an electrical carving tool. Those 3,000 BC folks didn’t have electrical carving tools!

I’ve seen some nice crosses made and geometrics, plus the usual points.

I need to get back to it, my grandkids are growing fast and will soon be ready.

Very pretty, and it looks like a fun craft, though not for the living room.
