The largest Neolithic house in Britain was built in Scotland around 6,000 years ago... Two halls which were used as houses and likely home to large numbers of people have been discovered in Carnoustie, Angus. The site is far larger and older than previously thought with archaeological work shedding new light on some of Scotland's earliest communities. Analysis shows food was processed and consumed in the halls with pottery made and used there. It is possible that animals were also kept in part of the building. The larger of the two halls is the largest Neolithic hall ever found in Britain and is now known to date to 4,000BC... Radiocarbon testing carried out during the excavation, which took place over 2016 and 2017, also confirmed the site contained a village that was built later than the halls. That was built around 1,000BC which chimes with the dates of a Late Bronze Age hoard found in the area. Mr Toolis said archaeologists were working with 100 radiocarbon dates taken from charcoal recovered from across the site... Evidence of several smaller round houses was found along with the remains of the halls... A major find from the site was a spearhead decorated with gold as well as a bronze sword and wooden sword sheath, which is believed to be the best preserved late Bronze Age scabbard in Britain.

I wonder if they went with GE or Whirlpool for their appliances.
Fascinating story and I always enjoy them.
6000 years. That’s a lot of generations ago.
Ruth Bader-Ginsberg was a mere slip of a girl then.
Probably went with Whirlpool for their washer, and General Tree Limb for the dryer. :^)
LOL.
took me a few seconds to get that. :)
Heck my parents didn’t have a dryer. The clothes line in the backyard was it :)
Today that would be considered child abuse.
I dont care how antique that house is, if it doesnt have granite countertops, it will never sell.
Give me Richard Todd as Rob Roy MacGregor in Disney’s 1953 movie “Rob Roy: The Highland Rogue.” He was always a favorite of mine.
I remember the days before dryers. We had an old wringer washer, and my mother hung everything on the clothes line in the small backyard we had...even during the winter. Many is the time my father's one-piece long underwear, and the rest of the wash froze on the line. Back in the days before permanent press and steam irons, my mother used to sprinkle the clothes with water, then roll them up and put them in bags in the old fridge we had in the basement until she could get around to ironing them. My job as a kid was ironing my Dad's bandana handkerchiefs, along with his t-shirts, boxer shorts, dishtowels, and pillow cases. We ironed just about everything back then.
Now THAT’S some history!
I am 50. I am guessing you are alluding to a time before the 1970s, when I was a kid and remember the clothes line.
Gee I guess they had to be put out in the winter too.
They were far more common by then but what wasn’t common in our house was money!! :)
I remember. I even used a washboard.
You had a 2nd set of clothes?
Why, back in my day....
LOL!! I was the baby, and got the hand-me-downs from my two older sisters, and when we got older, we used to share each other's clothes. By the time I went to high school, both my sisters were working, and could afford nice clothes. So I got to wear a lot of new things from time-to-time. And on special occasions, my oldest sister would take me out and buy me something I wanted...like a new coat, or the dress for a prom I had been invited to.
I watch him.
Ever see ffolkes? He had 6 older sisters and had to wear their hand-me-downs.
An interesting and type casting breaking role for Roger Moore...
4000 BC?
Only 4 years after creation, and they had enough people to need a BIG house?
Adam and Eve were, uh, busy...
Sounds like a big house. Must have gotten rich in the whiskey trade.
Mid-4th BC-Century Modern?
