Longest World Series game in history: Dodgers, Red Sox set a new record in Game 3
CBS Sports ^ | Oct 27, 2018 | Mike Axisa

Posted on 10/27/2018 12:52:00 AM PDT by CondoleezzaProtege

Game 3 was the 12th World Series game to go 12 innings and the fourth World Series Game to go 14 innings. It is the only World Series game to go 18 innings. Here are the longest World Series games in history by innings played:

2018 Game 3: Red Sox vs. Dodgers still playing in the 18th inning.

1916 Game 2: (Brooklyn) Dodgers beat Red Sox 2-1 in 14 innings.

2005 Game 3: White Sox beat Astros 7-5 in 14 innings.

2015 Game 1: Royals beat Mets 5-4 in 14 innings.

Furthermore, Game 3 is also the longest World Series game by time of game and it's not close either. Game 3 is already over the eight-hour mark as of this writing.

Here are the longest World Series games in history by time of game:

2018 Game 3: Red Sox vs. Dodgers in eight hours and counting.

2005 Game 3: White Sox vs. Astros in five hours and 41 minutes.

2017 Game 5: Dodgers vs. Astros in five hours and 17 minutes.

2015 Game 1: Royals vs. Mets in five hours and nine minutes.

2000 Game 1: Yankees vs. Mets in four hours and 51 minutes.

Does anyone care about pace of play during a very exciting World Series game? Didn't think so.

Had to turn in at 0100 - 13th inning. What a game.
Bosox fan, but game wouldn't come back east if the Dodgers didn't win last night.

Too bad Fox has to screw it up with those 10-second in-game commercials. Maddening.

How many replays made the longest game ever? They have been trying to speed up the game for years but they’ve only made them longer. Replay delays are about commercials not getting it right.

The longest cricket game in history lasted 9 days......Baseball keeps agonizingly inching towards that record.

Technically the longest world series game was the 2008 world series with the phillies vs Marlins. Final game was 2 days long.... Due to rain delay. :)

Four of Boston's top players are ex-Tigers, as is their president of player operations, Dombrowski. As soon as they were offered up by the Tigers, he wisely snatched them up.

The Tigers record this year: 64 - 98..........LOL!

‘They have been trying to speed up the game for years but they’ve only made them longer.’

return baseball to the game it was in the ‘30’s and ‘40’s...batter walks up to the plate, pitcher gets a sign, throws the ball, gets it back from the catcher, and within ten seconds pitches again...batter remains in box awaiting the next pitch; no stepping out to readjust gloves, or scratch his ass, pitcher not peering in for 15 seconds then stepping off the mound to go through signal communication; also, change some rules such as foul balls; I know it won’t go over too well, but two fouls with two strikes should be an out...something has to change, the game is unwatchable today...

The Red Sox have the best inter-league record in baseball. They had the best won-lost record this year.Their lineup features the American League's MVP.They beat the World Series champions handily in the playoffs.

And it took the Dodgers 18 innings to beat the Sox...at home.

Just remember,Dodgers fans:the Red Sox don't have to win a single game in Kalifornia

No where in the article does it inform the reader what the score was, or who won the game.

This is the state of journalism today.

Turned it on for 5 minutes, and now I’m really glad I didn’t try to watch the thing.

Larry King hasn’t had this much fun at a World Series game since he saw the Brooklyn Robins and the Boston Red Sox in the 1916 Series.

Baseball has no time limit. We don’t know when it’s gonna end.—George Carlin

Stayed up til about 2:45 am my time (in East) then half listened in bed and yes, heard the final HR about an hour later.

Fox annoying with quickie ads between batters—between pitches, even. Duracell, YouTube etc. I do get that big salaries mean big TV contracts mean the need to sell advertising and make DURACELL a YOUTUBE profit WATCH FOX SHOWS and that they wanna make a good profit and capitalism is good.

All that Joe Buck...

"All I care about is that my Dodgers won!!!!!"

________________

I'm happy for you.

Also, it was wonderful to see Sandy Koufax (with Rob Lowe) looking so happy and healthy.

I'm 71 and from Pittsburgh, PA and watched Sandy and Don Drysdale many times at old Forbes Field.

One twinight double header back around 1966 I remember well the Dodgers came to town as a very good team, but the Pirates won both games by very low scores such as 3-2 and 2-1.

I saw Sandy Koufax over those years often ...... he had the greatest curve ball in baseball.

Our seats were 15 rows behind the Pirate dugout on the first base side. My brother and I spent a lot of time in those seats as my father's company had those season tickets for years.

Anyhow, as always, that evening Sandy Koufax's curveball was nearly unhittable. ((It would ride in toward the plate ...... and about 10 to 15 feet from the plate that ball would fall ..... like it was DROPPING OFF A TABLE.)) It was a thing of beauty. And as a guy who eventually played some baseball for money, I wished the Pirates had a guy with that pitch ...... and the accompanying heat/smoke/fast ball.

_______________

Anyhow ....... let's have some more great games in this World Series, but could they be a little shorter?

;-)

Yes! I had never seen that before in a televised game.

The first time it happened, I yelled at the TV, “WTF is this?!?!”
