It's game 4. The Dodger just went ahead 4-0 on the three run homer.

Before that the bases were loaded, there was a hot grounder to first base...... the Boston first baseman quickly fired to the catcher at home plate forcing the runner coming home. The catcher then threw back to first for the double play.

The ball hit the runner. THE RUNNER WAS CLEARLY RUNNING TO FIRST BASE ..... IN FAIR TERRITORY.

I played and have followed baseball for over 65 years. I always was rather SURE that the runner could not run to first base in FAIR TERRITORY and interfere with the catcher's throw. If he did so and got hit with a throw from the catcher like tonight ........ he was an automatic out.

What the hell happened with that call? The runner/hitter should have been called out.

Any opinions?

If that call was made correctly the Dodgers would not have scored at all in that inning.

By definition the basepath is a line from where the runner starts his run to the base with a three foot lane on either side of that line. It’s a misconception that the chalk line is the basepath.

I never knew that. But just to be sure, I'm going to look it up.

I played this game for money many years ago and I must say I never heard of that "rule."

I have however over the years seen dozens of runners called out running to first base slightly in fair territory, after getting drilled in the back with the ball by the catcher. Many times the catcher DRILLED THE RUNNER ON PURPOSE --- automatic out.

I'll check out what you wrote, and thanks for that for now.

Great game now,

Running Lane to First Base —— (I think that you were wrong with your explanation.)

Dave Roberts doesn’t know that his bullpen is mediocre. He should go.

Boston is smokin' L.A.

It's beautiful.

It couldn't happen to a worse city.

Great game ......... 3 hours and 57 minutes of real baseball. I love smart hitting, and Boston has a good number of smart hitters.

Steve Pearce had one helluva night.

Congrats to all Boston baseball fans ....... one more to go.

Do you want to win it at home, or do you just want to get it over with tomorrow night?

(get it over with.)
