Secret of the Great Pyramid...hidden chamber is set to be revealed by an inflatable robotic blimp...

The device enters rooms and chambers through a 3.5 centimetre hole drilled through a wall by researchers outside.

It is made up of two robots, a tubular machine equipped with a high definition camera and a probe that explores the structure via a small, inflatable blimp.

After the first robot has taken a series of reconnaissance images, the drone is pushed through the drilled hole before inflating itself within the chamber.

Packed with an array of sensors and cameras, the remote-controlled device collects data and takes photos or video without causing damage to the fragile building.

After it has completed its mission, the floating probe returns to its docking station and deflates before it is extracted via the the same tube it entered in.

The discovery was made using 'cosmic ray imaging' in which subatomic particles that naturally rain down from the sky are used to map buildings like an X-ray scan.

Now scientists hope to use a new minimally-invasive robot to explore why chambers such as these were built.

The project has been initiated by ScanPyramids...

Full title: "Secret of the Great Pyramid of Giza's hidden chamber is set to be revealed by an inflatable robotic blimp that will explore Egypt's 4,500-year-old monument".

The internal structure (white dots in image) is located above the Grand Gallery - that links two of the pyramid's chambers - and traces a similar route for at least 30 metres (100ft). It could either lie on a horizontal or inclined (pictured) plane, experts said

Maybe. Color me skeptical on this one.

However.

They should try sideways-looking x-ray/gamma rays to see the entire cross-section. If I were the pyramid contractor, I’d build the outer walls of expensive, hard-to-cut-and-fit-transport-rock, and the inside of rubble and sand. Line the small walkways with rock.

I spent the night on top of that thing and Leonard Nimoy filmed me climbing down. One of the highlights of my life.

There is a video but the graphic doesn't want to show, dunno why. The void found a month or so ago in the muon study appears to be ramplike, and I'd guess came as a pleasant surprise to Jean-Pierre Houdin.

" without causing damage to the fragile building."

Fragile? That's not a word I would ever use to describe the Great Pyramid.

I think that should probably be “fragile contents of the chamber”.

There has been little to no evidence the pyramids were ever used as tombs so there shouldn’t be any fragile objects. Better safe than sorry, of course.

"May fears time, Time fears the pyramids." -- old saying

The corbels at the top of the grand gallery have been found to ba hanging on by a fraction of an inch on one end, suggesting the structure was exposed to major stress such as an earthquake of unusual strength. OTOH, it may have happened during the event that cracked the granite blocks used to roof the King's Chamber and the relieving chambers above it.

Mostly it's a crazy local control obsession. The backlash from Hawass and Lehner against the idea of the internal ramp, and even of the muon study, was breathtaking. Since his partial rehabilitation, Hawass has been trying to strip the debris layers away to reach bedrock in the Valley of the Kings -- something that btw has never been done in modern times -- in his desperate attempt to make a big score and find an unplundered pharaonic tomb.

The top step of what must be a tomb entrance was spotted about 120 years ago, and has never subsequently been excavated, mentioned, or catalogued, but I'm not sure most Egyptologists know how to read modern languages.

What Goes Up - Alan Parsons Project

What goes up, must come down
What must rise, must fall
And what goes on in your life
Is writing on the wall

If all things must fall
Why build a miracle at all
If all things must pass
Even a miracle won’t last

What goes up, must come down
What must stand alone?
And what goes on, in your mind
Is turning into stone

If all things must fall
Why build a miracle at all
If all things must pass
Even a pyramid won’t last

How can you be so sure?
How do you know what the earth will endure?
How can you be so sure?
That the wonders you’ve made in you life

Will be seen
By the millions who’ll follow to visit the site
Of your dream?

What goes up, must come down
What goes round, must come round
What’s been lost, must be found

Did you ever scan that photo of you “at rest” in the sarcophagus?

Cutaway view of Jean-Pierre Houdin's "Noble Circuit" chambers and corridors, plausible but yet to be proven. The cutaway also shows the spiral ramp in cross-section in two places.
