Estimated range of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus in the United States, 2017*
Prevention of mosquito bites is the best defense.
Geographically, the 75% of the range includes approximately 85% of the U.S. population.
CDC has updated the estimated range maps for Ae. aegypti and Ae. albopictus mosquitoes
by using a model
that predicts possible geographic ranges for these mosquitoes in the contiguous United States.
The model used county-level records, historical records,
and suitable climate variables to predict the likelihood (very low, low, moderate, or high)
that these mosquitoes could survive and reproduce
if introduced to an area during the months when mosquitoes are locally active.
These maps include areas where mosquitoes are or have been previously found.
Maps do not represent risk for spread of disease.
Ae. aegypti mosquitoes are more likely than Ae. albopictus mosquitoes to spread viruses like Zika, dengue, chikungunya and other viruses.

Aedes albopictus- They can live in a broader temperature range and at cooler temperatures than Ae. aegypti.
Because these mosquitoes feed on animals as well as people, they are less likely to spread viruses like Zika, dengue, chikungunya and other viruses.
As Glenn Reynolds likes to point out, if only there was a safe and inexpensive way to deal with this.
Vector monitoring- mosquitoes
There is. Stop all immigration from those areas of the world that are bringing it all here.
There is.
But DDT has been banned for decades.
I’m surprised that there is no black market for the stuff. Surely someone must be able to compound it in a lab somewhere.

"Maps do not represent risk for spread of disease."
Even CDC needs to use Climate Change funds and filtered research and press releases through ClimateChange orthodoxy.
DDT is widely used in India.

Bill Gates...
Me too. When you find it out, please share
Yeah, I saw that also. LOL
Apparently, they must have not gotten the memo from our President !
(Checks to see if I’m gonna die).
Yep. Gonna die.
I just looked up Homemade DDT and found an article about getting it in Pennsylvania. I got all excited until I realized the article was from 1945. Bummer
To prevent duplication, please do not alter the published title. Thank you.
My great grand Aunt caught malaria summering at the shores of Connecticut which of course were near the wetlands (swamps).
One word:
DDT.
Second words: health exam for everyone coming into the country. Esp foreign nationals from high risk countries. Ill people get sent back, or quarantined until healed. IF it is not healable they go back.
The name for this is PUBLIC HEALTH procedures.
Nonononono, DDT is baaaad!
The US only sprayed DDT all over the populations of Boston and New York and others in the 1950s. Nobody was killed, but DDT is now considered FAR too dangerous for Africa to even consider using. Africa would rather lose hundreds of thousands of lives per year than to do what major American cities did to solve the problem.

Agreed ! Ellis Island proved its worth many times over !
Many people don't realize that a mosquito may bite several times, different individuals, and spread a disease.
In the case of Zika, most recently learned is that the virus remains for a period of time in the male testes, and can be sexually transmitted.
