Why Your Face Will Soon Be The Key To All Your Devices
WSJ ^ | 08/20/17 | Christopher Mims

It was a memorable moment in Pixar’s 2004 classic “The Incredibles,” one that seemed wildly futuristic at the time: Mr. Incredible picks up a wafer-thin tablet computer, and it scans his face to verify his identity before divulging his secret mission.

Thirteen years later, many slim phones and tablets unlock with the press of a thumb—and just this sort of mobile facial scanning is on the way.

Forget fiddling with passwords or even fingerprints; forget multiple layers of sign-in; forget credit cards and, eventually, even physical keys to our homes and cars. A handful of laptops and mobile devices can now read facial features, and the technique is about to get a boost from specialized hardware small enough to fit into our phones.

It will be just like that Tom Cruise movie where Billboards address You by name.

Everywhere You Walk during the day every day with your face uncovered, you will generate hundreds of electronic records.

The government will be able to recall where you have been any day of your life, maybe.

You say there was a murder somewhere at some time?

The authorities will have automatically a list of the people that were near there.

The skills for being a detective will involve picking up a piece of paper, contacting those people and having conversations.

a fool in paradise :" Be seeing you.

Now you know why 'Fakebook', Micro$ift, and 'Giggle' have entered into facial recognition programs.
Your activity on these electronic boards, and your history of using them, are now a matter of public record that can be bought and sold without your knowledge.
Between facial recognition programs, massive data collection centers, and unauthorized swapping of information, your privacy is virtually "non-existent".

None of it matters. States sell your driver’s license info. If you drive, you are already databased. And in Texas you provide fingerprints to get licenses. One finger from each hand. Because apparently they think you may lose one hand.

Except the “free” in society who cross the border without recognition and “don’t exist” because they live in the margins.

2 sets of law, one for scofflaw invaders and one for the “citizens” who are prosecuted for crimes (while the scofflaws are cut loose).

“One finger from each hand. Because apparently they think you may lose one hand.”

True Story: The Hong Kong smart ID cards include your thumb prints. For three weeks before my appointed time to go down to the government office and fill out the paperwork for my card I spent a few minutes a day sanding my thumbs with a piece of fine grained pumice used in book repair. My thumbs were smooth. No finger prints.

I asked them, what if I had no hands? Would you use my toes or take a nose print like a cow?

The guy behind the counter was not amused.

They made me come back in two weeks.

It’s even worse than you think, for example under HIPAA your medical Info is supposed to be private. But let’s say I want to advertise to people with high blood pressure. Well I take the data from a pharmacy, you get the pills from the doctor go to the counter to pay for them. We make a file of all the phones and mobile devices on the WiFi near that register at the time of the transaction. next time those pills are purchased again I compare the files and see which phone or mobile device is there this time too, presto I can advertise to you specifically about blood pressure meds or other related services without technically invading your privacy.

We could use this for voter ID, but of course the Democrats would argue that this would be racist because minorities disproportionately lack thumbs.

Foxconn uses facial recognition in China. The police for jaywalkers for repeat offenders.

How they tell all the Chinese apart.....

I hope they realize that faces change over time. How long after you give up shaving would it be before you were unrecognizable to your phone? Would losing or gaining weight cause a password error?
