Voting today in Maryland - Vanity
April 26, 2016 | 47

Posted on 04/26/2016 7:55:22 AM PDT by FourtySeven

So I'm voting today in Maryland, a larger turnout than usual is expected. It will be interesting to see if there are lines at my polling place. I still don't believe it will be that great, the nominations are pretty much a done deal at this point I don't see why anyone would turn out in great numbers. At least not in comatose Baltimore City. (Yes I live in the city limits; slowly trying to convince my wife to move)

In case anyone is interested, I'm still voting for Ted Cruz. I'm sorry, I can't wrap my head around voting for Trump (yet). In the general, should be secure the nomination (which is of course likely), yes of course. I'm not nor will ever be #NeverTrump. I'm #NeverNeverTrump I guess you could say. I will vote for him in November. But not now, sorry.

There's nothing to be said to convince you the reader of my choice. You can't say anything to convince me. So let the flames begin if you must. I thought about not posting this vanity, but I wanted to let my (now few) fellow FReepers who still support Cruz that yes, there are still some left.

I would say though to such compatriots that we must not become #NeverTrump, even as we know many lies were spread by some of his supporters about Cruz. Not all of his supporters did that, and who can blame him for capitalizing on the "Lyin Ted" meme when it started to stick. I don't. I really don't. He really does want to win, and all is fair in politics really. He's fought a good fight and his (near) victory is deserved. So kudos to him for running a brilliant campaign. He certainly knows how to reach "the people". So maybe he is the best for this country now.

There is nothing however that can convince me Trump is more conservative, by definition, than Ted Cruz. Despite Cruz's recent actions (again, all is fair in politics) there is no question he is the more conservative politically, and that's what a primary is ultimately all about. Choosing the candidate who is most in line with the party platform.

So I'm off to vote. Soon. After work. I'll check in periodically to read the flames and hopefully few supportive comments. There should at least be a few good chuckles here.

Thanks and God Bless,

Good luck and thanks for voting. I don’t agree with your vote but glad that in Maryland citizens are able to. Have a great day!

Thank you for your honest vote. Cruz should be very proud of having a supporter like you. (I am not a Cruz fan by any stretch). Blessings to you and your wife.

I am voting in Maryland today for Cruz. I agree with you on most points. I could vote Trump in the general but never in a primary. Trump is a populist and is very clearly not a conservative. I will never understand all of these Freepers who are supporting Trump over a true conservative. Free Republic has always been about supporting conservative causes and I just don’t see it with Trump.

I live in southern Maryland.
I’m a registered democrat so I can vote against the worst of the rats in the primaries.
I’ll be voting for Bernie today.

As I posted in another thread:

"Cruz has ignored the Commandment, not to bear 'false witness.' The claim that Donald Trump is pro-abortion because he recognizes that it would be an outrage to sacrifice the hopes of an innocent girl, who has been raped, by forcing her to bear the rapist's baby, is not only bearing false witness. It illustrates a myopic obsession with only one individual's interest; an obsessive denial of the legitimate rights of an innocent girl in the situation.

"Let me put it another way. Ted Cruz started out as a legitimate Conservative; like I, a true strict constructionist. Many of us looked forward last year, to Ted helping educate the voters on the what, whys and how of the Constitution. But it has not been.

"He has gotten more and more clearly side-tracked; more and more obsessive over misrepresenting his opponents' positions--thus more and more into errant hypocrisy, when he pretends to still be true to his avowed Faith and the Conservative positions, we expected him to champion.

"The fall of Ted Cruz is truly an immense disappointment to many of us who now enthusiastically back Donald Trump. If Ted will simply desist; stop the misrepresentations; abandon the flashes of obsessive myopia; I am sure many of us here, will be willing to welcome him back as an ally in future campaigns. But forget about Cruz in 2016. It is over for him; and he has no one to blame but himself."

Choosing the candidate who is most in line with the party platform.

Balderdash. The GOPe writes the party platform. They are wrong on immigration and wrong on trade. FYI: The platform for 2016 has yet to be written. The GOP platform survey contains no mention of immigration.

2 questions for you, if I may. Do you believe the US is being invaded by illegals? Do you think the country is on the wrong track or is everything ok where you live?

I will never understand all of these Freepers who are supporting Trump over a true conservative.

You're a 98er, so you of all people should understand the power of the Media, and why it needs to be broken.

Trump is the only man for the job.

While I like Cruz, he's not up to the job. A day after a Cruz clinched the nomination, the Media and the Left (but I repeat myself) would be having a necktie party for young Ted over his North Carolina bathroom comments.

He fell for Lauer's trap.

Yes. And where I live things are okay. But that is very regional. Most jobs come from the FedGov or related services in Maryland.

Maybe I am out of touch with the Republican party. I have always leaned more libertarian. I never said I wouldn’t vote for Trump, but I can’t do it in the primary. TBH, I don’t think anyone I have ever voted for in the primary has had a chance.

Ok thanks. I want to discuss you voting for Cruz. Nothing about Trump if that’s ok. Firstly, can we agree that Mr. Cruz has spent his entire adult life working in and for Government? Both at the Texas state level and Federal service from the Bush administration on?

Serious question, what makes you think Trump is the man for the job of breaking the power of the media? I feel like people are projecting all their hopes and wishes on the man without evidence that can deliver. It seems to me like he is the Right’s version of Obama; the man to right all wrongs, lower the sea levels, and put a Lexus in every driveway.

You read this on Twitter? Facebook? The internet? Maybe saw it on TV? ROTFLMAO! He isn't breaking the media, he is using it like a rented mule, and THEY know it.

There is a long list of conservative causes
I guess who you support depends on how you prioritize them

as a Trump supporter my top priorities are

The economy, border security/immigration control, the economy, preserving the US Constitution by protecting the 1st, second and other amendments, the economy, respect for free enterprise and individual liberty, the economy, being unashamedly non-PC pro American and being willing to project strength in our international trade and security strategies and policies, purging the government of incompetent weak corrupt people, and the economy. Oh and turning the corner on this ridiculous “PC” stuff where people are afraid to even discuss their opinions fears and ideas.

And finally, the economy.
I really am waaaay beyond Senators on soap boxes giving speeches about what they plan to do when those feats are not even in the job description of a US president. Like ending abortion and abolishing the IRS. Yeah, get back to us on how the executive office does that with a slim GOP legislative majority dominated by spineless uniparty bureaucrats who have zero history off working with or liking Ted Cruz

Obamacare, govt bureaucracy and regulation and greed and corruption, and world recession, are destroying our economy. We are throwing trillions of dollars into fruitless military intervention in the middle east and provably supporting terrorist who want to kill us. And bringing them here to multiply.

Lets roll.
Thats why I am voting trump.

Also, Cruz is not a natural born citizen.

If he is, then so are the children born in Mexico to any drug lord with an American wife.

If Cruz is a natural born citizen then so are the foreign born children of any American tourism baby.

**This** is exactly what the Founders wanted to avoid.
