Quarterback great Peyton Manning is expected to announce his retirement within a week, the Denver Post reported on Saturday.

The newspaper reported that after meeting recently with Denver Broncos general manager John Elway, "Manning is certain" the time has come to call it a day.

Manning helped the Denver Broncos defeat the Carolina Panthers in the Super Bowl earlier this month.

The victory was his second National Football League championship in a storied career in which he was named the league’s Most Valuable Player five times in 17 seasons

It was a good run. I hated what the NFL did to Tebow though.

Sung to the tune of his Nationwide commercials, no doubt.

He deserves it. Time to go out on top. Unlike some athletes who have no clue when to give it up like Jordan etc. On another note, the NFL didn’t do in Tebow. Teams like the Jets flat out lied to him and Chip Kelly hung him out to dry in the end.

Maybe it was the second from the last game, toward the end of the game, I saw Peyton grimace just as he saw a 300 pound tackler coming, unstopped, at him.

He was either in pain already, which is probably the case, or just tired of it.

I also have had ACDF surgery and would not even think about taking a couple hits from a line backer. Manning was a great quarterback without a doubt. As to the Tim Tebow comment comment I have a feeling the people forget a lot of great college quarterbacks don’t make in the NFL had Tebow been willing to move position to a tight end or running back and become another player in the mold of Kordell Stewart think he could have had a career in the NFL albeit not the one he wanted. I’ll miss him being in the league. I started watching the NFL 15 years ago, so he’s always been there in my case. I think he obviously has a bright future as an analyst or a coach.

I love Payton and will miss him greatly. I hope he becomes an analyst on one of the big networks so I can still watch him every week! I saw the grimace you mention, it was late in the 4th quarter... The look of pain before the hit arrived as he saw the 300 pounds of unblocked force coming right at him!

Yep. Tebow had a winning season on the way out. And this year Manning rode the Denver Defense to victory.

I’m glad Peyton realizes that he’s had his share of football. I respect him greatly.

Here’s my lasting memory of Tim Tebow, as he brought the Broncos back in the 4th Quarter and OT to beat the Steelers in 2012. Even the announcers couldn’t believe it.

“Manning helped the Denver Broncos defeat the Carolina Panthers in the Super Bowl earlier this month.”

How did he help? The D did most of the work.

Fair’s fair. Just about every one of Indianapolis’ defenses and the ‘12 Broncos defense rode him to a bunch of victories.

I love Tim Tebow, but he threw a five yard pass on a blitz and the receiver ran 75 yards.

He avoided making the big mistakes too often for the D to counter the effects.

Tebow was no Manning for sure. Good luck to Manning. I am glad he is retiring. He did good.
