Eminent Australian scientist Professor Frank Fenner, who helped to wipe out smallpox, predicts humans will probably be extinct within 100 years, because of overpopulation, environmental destruction and climate change.
Fenner said that climate change is only at its beginning, but is likely to be the cause of our extinction. “We’ll undergo the same fate as the people on Easter Island,” he said. More people means fewer resources, and Fenner predicts “there will be a lot more wars over food.”

I was watching a show on the science channel just the other night that theorized a correlation climatic fluctuations and spurts of evolutionary brain size doubling every 400,000 years.
Apparently earth falls into gravitational resonance with Jupiter every 400,000 years that causes earth’s orbit to elongate by a few million miles.

Ever. Anywhere. There have been wars of conquest which used impending shortages of this or that resource as a pretext, but no actual wars over food. It's simple to see why -- in the 1990s the liberal meme was that the have-nots would storm over and kick your ass to take everything you'd stolen from the rest of the world. Number one, we've never stolen anything; number two, if they could get across the ocean, they wouldn't bother, they'd just feed themselves; number three, if they weren't starving, they might be able to go to war, but they can't in the first place.
