Dealer: Mexican weed up in smoke
The Pueblo Chieftain ^ | 2-11-15 | peter strescino

Posted on 02/11/2015 5:09:20 PM PST by SpeakerToAnimals

The market for Mexican marijuana has dried to a whiff and “everybody and his mother” is growing their own product, says a Puebloan who has been selling pot here for more than 20 years. - The current legal recreational market is fueled by people from out of state, Tracy said. Colorado users, weary of the high taxation on the product, have taken to growing, getting their “red card” for medicinal marijuana or even using Craigslist to score pot. - See more at: http://www.chieftain.com/news/3292183-120/marijuana-tracy-market-dealer#sthash.D9Z5fiLF.dpuf

Capitalism works. Those of us who got together to legalize marijuana within the system were right. The sky did not fall. The source link is slow. Methinks the server is getting slammed.

Working out great for me. I’m encouraging homeless people to move to Colorado everywhere I find them.

Up this way what little pot that was imported tended to come from Canada but most has been locally grown for a long time. Mexican was crap anyway.

Stories about adverse effects of the new law are greatly exaggerated. Pueblo is my home town. I have family there and visit often. As the article states, most of the legal weed is purchased by out of state folks.

The biggest grow shop is in Pueblo, conveniently located at the end of an off ramp on I-25. The customers are not homeless bums, quite the contrary.

Do not let facts ruin your preconceived notions.

Can CO citizens legally grow their own? If so, all the pot dealers could go under (?).

No, people cannot grow their own, at least not legally. Production is highly regulated.

Six plants per household. The locals grow their own according to the article. Pot tourists from out of state are the biggest buyers. So much so Nebraska and Oklahoma are suing Colorado claiming increased cost of interdicting it on the highway.

Well, capitalism to a degree. Tax and spend Democrats teamed up with anti-legalization Republicans to set the tax rate too high, so there is still a black market and people chancing grow your own.

State would lose their cut I guess. Other than growing, pot is about legal here in CA under an ounce. They don’t even write you up. Personally, I don’t like being around people on booze or dope. I drink about $20 worth of booze a year, don’t abuse drugs or smoke.

Production is highly regulated.

The big gubbermint types say that. The dealer quoted in the article sold illegal weed for 20 years. She is out of business. Cartel crap isn't imported to Colorado anymore.

Legal or not, weed has always been available. In all 57 states.

I don't use pot, never have.

It's the age old debate that economics challenged liberals don't get. If they would cut the pot tax so people aren't resorting to the black market so much, they would actually bring in more revenue.

Another year before any social conclusions can be drawn IMO.
Financially, what effect is it having?
What’s an ounce of good, but not “dyno-mite!”, weed cost?

I’ve noticed the appearance of several “Hydroponics” stores in my neck of the world (Nowheresville, USA) over the last ten years or so.

I’ve always assumed they were mostly about home grow operations.

Legal or not its what I did when I smoked. I didn’t have to mess with dealers and I had a better product.

I used to keep a close eye on the young plants so I could kill the males as fast as I found them. I also got a shover deep under the roots when the plants got a couple feet tall and tilted them over to near horizontal so they would sprout multiple upright stems.

I was talking about legal production. They actually have to tag each plant with a state tag.

Of course, with legalization you don't have LE smashing down doors in no-knock raids looking for a couple of plants, so I believe her that more people are growing their own.

IIRC the tax rate was part of the ballot initiative. But it is set way too high. The article says growing your own can save a grand a year in taxes.

It is sold by the gram. I never entered a legal grow shop. I hear the KGB is 25 bucks a gram. A gram of it will keep two people stoned for several days. The non weapons grade stuff about 20 bucks.

The big grow shop is at the exit I take to my brothers place. I got gas next door and watched the traffic. Interesting mix of people. Many older than me. I am 59.
