“Single Mom, Sorry” Tip Receipt Excuse Flares Tempers
Reddit via Fox 2 Now (Saint Louis) ^ | November 2, 2012 | Reddit

Posted on 11/06/2012 3:33:24 PM PST by Altariel

(Reddit.com) – A woman had enough money to pay for a $138.35 bill, but not enough to handle 15 percent more than that. The explanation written in the tip line, “Single Mom Sorry.” An online discussion has broken out around the country after the included photo surfaced on Reddit.

The photo was posted by editor PhenixSongFawkes on the online forum. He wrote, “I’m sure $140 could have gotten you and your kids a week worth of groceries, but instead you spend it one one meal?! For shame!”

That tends to be the general sentiment of comment posters on Reddit and other social media sites, with most insinuating that if the woman could afford a $140 bill, she could probably afford to add a somewhat-obligatory 15 percent tip, which would total $21.

“If the restaurant isn’t paying the waitstaff, it ain;t the customers fault”

You know that the IRS assumes a certain tip when calculating this person’s taxes, right? So, she is going to LOSE money for this (apparently good) work. Are you OK with that?

More than likely an omaobamao voter. My daughters friend used to work at Hooter’s and she quit because the omaobamao customers left little to no tip.

That's a whole cloth argument USUALLY used.

Women who are widows are called "Widows". Women who are Divorced are called "Divorcee's". Women who are "Separated", are called "Legally Separated".

Tramps, sluts, etc., have latched onto the "Single Mom" monicker to hide their loose sex activity.

Stiffing a waitress is NOT theft.

Thank you for your effort. You almost had it fixed for me. Should read: Stiffing a waitress is NOT theft is you are a deadbeat, bonehead, stingy woman, or Democrat.

There. Fixed it for ya.

The IRS assumes squat, that just make a bigger tax return anyway.

The restaurant in the employer.

Pay what you owe and leave. It’s the best way to get the waitstaff a raise.

Actually I bet this is real. There plenty of d#cks out there.

If you can afford a $130 dinner, you can throw the server at LEAST a 20-spot.

The jackasses who ran up this tab should be ashamed of themselves. And yes I know about people leaving Bible tracts in lieu of a tip. Completely classless.

No, I'm not going to back down. The Steve Buscemis out there can go to hell.

The waitstaff works hard for their tips, and should be rewarded accordingly. None of this "Well, I don't tip, because the management should pay them more BS"

Stiffers are just cheapskate a$$wipes, trying to justify their pathetic cheapness by screwing over hard-working folks.

I tip 20%
If I get bad service, I leave nothing.
At Buffets I leave a couple of bucks, Or if I got really good service , my drink filled and bread, while eating a couple more.

I never ate a meal in my life that ost $138.00 and I don’t intend to.

You are completely wrong there. The IRS does make "assumptions," and if the server gets stiffed and therefore doesn't claim the anticipated percentage, that server is in big trouble. I worked with a guy that was in an audit. How was he supposed to "prove" his tips? You seem to be as misinformed as the DUmmies. It is a sad case and I hope you don't eat out. If you do, you are a thief, and part of the problem in this country, not the solution.

Look. The aspect of “theft” comes into play by the IRS. The government.

When the IRS takes tax revenue from an income YOU DID NOT make, THAT is theft.

The restaurant customer maight be a total jerk, or maybe the service was terrible... who knows?

But the failure to leave a tip is not theft. It might be mean, cruel, justified, whatever...

But unless you show me ONE case of a non-tipper being arrested....

It’s not theft.

Think of your server as self-employed. You have the chance to pay them what you think they earn. It is the ultimate free-market capitalist system. If the restaurant includes the “tip” in the bill, you don’t have a say - you pay for lousy service just like you pay for excellent service...and what do you think will happen to the overall standard of service?

It is actually the occutard mentality that says, “include the tip in the bill and pay the server the same, regardless of the service they provide”.

I'm a woman, and I can tell you that there's no way on the face of this earth I would run up that kind of bill and not leave SOME kind of tip. That being said, I base the tips I give on the quality of service I get.
Crappy service=crappy tip.
If the establishment's busy and the staff is light,I tend to feel bad for the server and tip accordingly.
I've done server work before;it's easy to slip up,make mistakes or have accidents when you're swamped from lunch through dinner and until closing on a weekend. If you don't take it out on the customer and do the best you can,you should get a good tip.Just my opinion.
Another thing..I don't like the policy some places have of pooling, then splitting tips among servers,or including a gratuity in the bill (unless it's a party of six or more). If you get crappy service, why should the server get a tip?

I understand-for a while I was in charge of parking adminstration for a large University.

The rationalizations for tickets and parking spaces could make your head spin and catch on fire. The little widow was one of them. The Single mother was prevalent, along with “Do you know who I am”

Had a Dr. ask me how many lives I had saved that day. Told him he was still breathing. Didn’t go well from there :)

It amazes me how flexible the Universe is, because it seems to revolve around so many people
