MOSCOW: Several objects resembling living beings were detected on photographs taken by a Russian landing probe in 1982 during a Venus mission, says an article published in the Solar System Research magazine.
Leonid Ksanfomaliti of the Space Research Institute of Russia's Academy of Sciences published a research that analysed the photographs from the Venus mission made by a Soviet landing probe, Venus-13, in 1982.
The photographs feature several objects, which Ksanfomaliti said, resembled a "disk", a "black flap" and a "scorpion".

I was thinking more like “RUN AWAY!”
Seems like I read that the density of the atmosphere is so great that it refracts the light in a way that it would seem like you were standing at the bottom of a bowl with the sides rising up around you to the horizon.
Eeew. What has been seen cannot be unseen. Where is the eye bleach when you need it?
sounds like they’ve got global warming there - wonder if they need a boatload of climate scientists and one former VP to help figure it out?
Wasn’t this shown to be part of the equipment that was malfunctioning?
I’ve read lots of science fiction. Surely that’s enough to qualify me to be a Russian scientist.
Depends, do you like vodka?
Isn't that what hit John King in the face at Thursday's debate?
Eye bleach won’t help. I can give you the name of my therapist, though.
Russian tabloids are always running this type of crazy crap.
Lots of possibilities. While the surface of Venus is about 90 atmospheres, it is the equivalent of about 1300m underwater, where lots of complex sea life dwells.
Temperature and noxious gases are another problem. While there might be animals evolved to handle these for a short time, they would need to quickly return underground where it could be substantially cooler.
The best possibility is that there is a large body of liquid underground that when hot, sinks, and when cool, rises, thus creating a cooling current between deep underground and the surface.
“Temperature and noxious gases are another problem.”
One of the posts above says that the surface air is clear with no wind. So there would have to be underground water so deep it wouldn’t be burned by by 400 degree C.
The Soviets had problems over and over with the Venera landers. The first one they thought landed actually was crushed before landing as it was not built for the pressure of Venus. The longest lander actually functioned for about two hours after landing. These probes were taking photos while quickly being destroyed by the heat and pressure. I can’t imagine there could be any life other than subterranean microbial life there.
Russian scientists are no strangers to sensational claims...

OK so what is that photo supposed to be of I wonder?
Heh! First episode I thought of. Starred William Shatner, as I recall...
