Hal Lindsey as a Biblical News Anchor
5/3/2009 | me

Posted on 05/03/2009 6:15:12 AM PDT by spacejunkie01

Last night I watched Hal Lindsey (www.hallindsey.com). He does a 30 minute show on one of the Christian channels and it's all based on current news and how it relates to the Bible. His show last night, in particular, was about 'EMP's'--electro magnetic pulses. He said that many of our enemies are training and planning on inflicting an EMP on us, where they launch a rocket 180 miles above the US and the gamma rays obliterate our entire electric grid and every single electrical component we have.

Of course he connected the fact that Obama is doing away with our Missile Defense Shield.

His tag line is something like, todays news and yesterday's prophecies.

Anyway, I really thought if Fox News was bold, they would use this or something like it to replace the Beltway Boys or some other 1/2 hour slot. There is a HUGE amount of interest in this nation right now about end times and what the Word of God says is coming our way.

Thoughts? If this is a dumb post just say so, or delete it admin mod.

I too like Lindsey’s program. He’s very insightful and does his homework.

It would be an extremely bold move for FOX to have a show like his. It’ll never happen!

I’d suggest a more moderate avenue. Put someone like Hal amongst a panel of others to give the biblical perspective.

According to Hal the world ended in 1988.

This fellow has been selling the end of the world for ~40 years and gotten quite wealthy in the process. IIRC in the 70’s he said we’d be gone in the 80’s and so on.

Here is my tinfoil hat moment. I actually hope they are successful in the EMP thing if it is actually possible. I think it may be the ONLY way to break the zombie like hold on the American sheeple would be to take away their gadgets, gizmos, and TV.

The evening news would be unable to keep their minds muddled, neighbor would end up helping neigbor after the initial insanity and while it would be hard, and many would die, the strong and prepared would survive, recover and rebuild.

Without an audience or a plan, especially with out a forum, huge govt would wither away, and state and local govt would become what it was meant to. By the time communications and such were reinstated everywhere, small govt would be in its rightful place, as would state and federal.

Tinfoil hat back off.......

OK, your comic relief is covered so who do you get to give the biblical perspective?

Hal isn’t saying anything about EMP’s that Coast to Coast AM hasn’t been talking about for years. I put both his program and C2C on about the same level of believability.

Last I heard, Hal was on marrige #4. As his books and marriages are overtaken by time, he recycles them — same plot, but new faces, new names.

Bad theology is a harsh taskmaster. For decades, Hal has served as an unpaid cheerleader for the other team, celebrating as “certain” the coming global triumph of evil. This kind of apocalyptic hysteria aborted the Jesus Movement nearly four decades ago. A supernatural moment of opportunity was diverted into the fruitless, pointless, and ludicrous fascination with bizarre speculations.

I pray we will see revival again — and that we won’t let God’s efforts on our behalf get squandered on this kind of male bovine excrement.

See my tagline.

His The Late Great Planet Earth was published in 1970. He has been predicting the end ever since -- he just keeps moving the date forward a few years, as each deadline passes.

End-time books seem to be profitable. And end-time prophets have been predicting the end-times since there were prophets. A few go out on a limb and actually predict dates, collect their followers, sit and wait, and then explain why their selected date was in error.

Doesn’t sound so much “tinfoil hat” to me.

Back in the day before all the gadgets, gizmos, and TV, people lived and had enough to do to keep them so busy they didn’t have time to dream up as much trouble as they do now. They lived without the internet (come to think of it, so did we - and not all that many years ago), they didn’t have to know every possible tidbit of bad news everywhere in the world every minute, they didn’t have to be on the cell phone 24/7 and everywhere they went (also not so long ago on that one either). Many of the deaths would probably be psychological. - I could use some peace and quiet, but then the world I was born into, electricity was in its infancy with our lights consisting of bare light bulbs in the center of the room, our water came from a well and had to be drawn in a bucket, the garden was out back for our food, we got our eggs from my grandparents’ chickens, we also bought very few things at the grocery store in general.

Regardless of the source, we need to consider the effects of EMP. I personally known about it for over 25 years but yet, we do nothing. It was in ham radio magazines about that time when the Soviet Union was in existence. Some tin cup dictator like Almadjihad of Iran are going to cap our knees if we continue to ignore this.

IMHO, it would be the one attack the enemy could do to us that would actually be beneficial instead of bad. It would take a while (years) to recover from it, but breaking the idiot boxes hold on people would get the job done, I think. I know there are so many other things that would be so difficult I just can’t imagine (hospitals not being able to run, ventolaters, surgeries, vehicles, and a host of things I cant even imagine I am sure,) but the founders did it without all our luxuries and advances, I think we could as well. I would consider it a necessary sacrifice I guess....

According to Hal the world ended in 1988.

It was the last year for the Gipper's Presidency.

So in that respect, the world DID end.

I like Hal, and to a lesser extent the Van Impes, because of precisely what you name. However, they are tainted for getting far too close to date setting and naming the Anti-Christ. It is sufficient to say the Lord’ return could be any moment. And as far a naming an AC, there are several candidates that are interesting, but we should not be dogmatic about it for sure. That can be dangerous.

Still, Fox would probably never pick something up like this because Fox doesn’t do religious programming (other than Rick Warren’s stuff which I don’t like).

A show like Lindsey’s but without the baggage Lindsey carries with him would be a grand idea, though.
