A friend online pointed out this website of free courses. May want to watch for dropping leftist hints in some of the lectures, haven't explored much.

Donald Kagan - a leftist? Come now.

Professor Kagan is a scholar, furthermore, one with a decidedly Western civilization bias. About fifteen years ago, a Texas oil man, whose name escapes me, offered Yale a $20 million dollar gift to endow a chair of Western Civilization with the understanding that Kagan would be appointed to it. The Yale faculty dithered, and enventually, the donor, frustrated, withdrew the offer.

I look forward to watching Professor Kagan in action.

Thank you so much for posting the info on Donald Kagan’s online course! Bookmarked, and I expect to enjoy it very much — Kagan’s a marvelous scholar and educator.

Kagan is absolutely brilliant. His series on the Peloponnesian Wars is probably the best modern treatment of that era. Highly recommended.

I have a massive collection of ancient books in Greek, many 150 - 200 years old that I’ve found in old bookstores. I have a lot of the loeb classical series and studied two years of Attic Greek, love it, great stuff.

A careful re-reading of what I wrote up there should suffice to convince you that I SAID NO SUCH THING. Thanks.

Respectfully, I don’t see how any other interpretation can be supported.

You did write “A friend online pointed out this website of free courses. May want to watch for dropping leftist hints in some of the lectures, haven’t explored much.”

Any reasonable person must interpret this statement as a warning that the lectures in question, that is Professor Kagan’s course, may have leftist hints.

Okay. The website of free courses isn’t just Kagan’s; one is about the financial system collapse, and that was one example of what I’m talking about up there.

Apparently Kagan left Cornell and went to Yale because he was disgusted with the craven way that the Cornell administrators dealt with the student rebels there in the 1960s.

He's the father of Frederick Kagan and Robert Kagan, both distinguished authors in their own right.
