My sister emailed me to lay off Obama and "gays" on Facebook or she would have to block me. I saved her the trouble and unfriended her.
It breaks my heart but at this point I have no desire to even talk to her or her family. Has anyone else had to deal with this?
You wouldn’t believe how anti-christian my mother is too. Funny, since her beliefs in an afterlife without God for all the “good” people is hilariously moronic. She also loves homosexuals and their agenda.
HOMOSEXUAL, because there's nothing GAY about it. Accurate, without name-calling. Let the other side do the name-calling and you've won.
As I said, my sister and I have an understanding to not discuss politics. Now she wants to control what I post on FB.
It wasn't pretty, but I already understood the totalitarian methodology these people soak up like sponges. Leftism is so strange, they bring up politics then say we have to stop if you bring up compelling arguments against their schtick. It sounds like your sister has drunk the kool aid and is willing to let it destroy your relationship. I would try to call her on it, she should know better. I DO believe family should trump politics, so you should go the extra mile to try to make it work. If it doesn't work, you know you have made the effort and the ball would be in her court.
We have made this method of family trumping politics work well with our daughter and one daughter in law who are libs. Our three sons are fairly strong conservatives, along with one more dil and with that we are fairly happy. Disclaimer: My wife's sister and bro in law are not talking with either of us very often. It doesn't always work.
Only conservative in my family; never missed Thanksgiving, but I have not graced the table since the Reagan era....
I call ‘em “dung eaters”, but that’s just me.
Yes. My oldest daughter identifies herself as a lesbian and is legally “married” to a lesbian atheist in DC.
This woman was raised in the church and was voluntarily baptized when she was 13.
She and I get along fine as long as we don’t discuss politics, although occasionally I will choose to hide a post of hers on Facebook.
Her “wife” on the other hand, actively hates the fact that I refuse to approve of this marriage. She frequently is openly hostile to our Christianity. I hide her posts a lot, but have told her I will not deny Christ under any circumstances. Her mother is also Christian and I suspect I get some misplaced anger she will not direct at her mother.
Privately I pray for both of them.
We have a ‘No Politics’ rule.
I have a sister in law who is close to the same. We are in civil war II. During Civil War I families were often broken between north and south.
I had an Aunt delete me from Facebook because of it.
Yeah I actually enjoy my family liberals and all. I just don’t get into politics with them.
Another story...
We were at a hubs’ family wedding (RI libs) and one of the kids of one of hubs’ brothers sat down next to me at the reception and very quietly whispered that he was becoming a conservative. This kid was abandoned by his dad (hubs’ bro), raised by a nutty mom, is an ex-heroin addict and now is making his life in the restaurant business. Basically a good kid whose adult figures failed him.
Couldn’t have been more happy for him...”Welcome to the Light, my child!”
And that’s exactly what they’ll be doing. Pretending. No homosexual relatives thankfully, but my mother is such a moonbat, she wants one of my brothers to be queer. She’s disturbed.
Generally if you bash Obama or gays on Facebook, Mark Zuckerman makes that disappear in less than five minutes.
No real problem from my family, but some of the family and friends I’m sure block my posts.
I’m getting off facebook and using it less and less. A tool designed to extract for the government your location, who you have contact with, your politics. Every aspect of your life is being mined by corporations or the government.
I’m tired of giving it away for free.
My entire family is leftist...
When we talk, we never table about politics nor current events.

Sounds like my stepson, he imagines himself to be a champion of logic but I have been amazed at the absurdities he pours forth. He can spout insanity and steadfastly defend it as proof of his brilliance.
I do feel bad for those who have to deal with an unstable liberal relative. Sometimes there's nothing you can do to help them. They have to learn themselves the hard way. Just don't get too close to them, because they'll try to drag you down into their insane vortex. You'll end up supporting them in some crazy way for the rest of your life. They'll be stuck to your behind like a fly on fly paper...forever.
I have no issues.
