Vanity - Have you had family issues because of being conservative and hating Obama?

Posted on 06/28/2013 5:39:09 AM PDT by ilovesarah2012

My sister emailed me to lay off Obama and "gays" on Facebook or she would have to block me. I saved her the trouble and unfriended her.

It breaks my heart but at this point I have no desire to even talk to her or her family. Has anyone else had to deal with this?

I don’t have that problem...everyone in my family has always worked and never on entitlements. That said, I told both of my children that if I even think they voted or would vote for an evil demon like Obama, I’d disown both of them.

I’m used to it. My family (long-time liberal Democrats) disowned me when I “came out” as a Conservative in college.

That was 30 years ago. I have my own family now, and we’re ALL conservatives. . .

My sister and BIL have worked very hard their whole lives and have done very well. You would expect them to be conservatives. I just don’t get it but I will not shut up for family or anyone else. I believe what I believe.

My grown children are Christians and conservatives. I think my sister just says whatever her husband says. She stopped thinking for herself many years ago.

I have libtards in my family - I know how you feel

I just post the really blatantly obvious hypocracies- the ones they cannot argue with.

Not sure. Don't really know if it's because of politics or if divergent philosophies merely provide a pretext to air more deep-seated resentments, but my son seems to go out of his way to try proving me wrong.

His arguments generally are as absurd as they are intractable.

Funny how the concept of “let’s not bring politics into this” only applies to conservatives.

My family is well balanced.

My brother in California is a left wing nut and I am a right wing nut.

This will be an interesting thread.

My sister-in-law has never outwardly attacked me, but she avoids me whenever she can; she never drops to see me by when I'm in town visiting my parents. My brother comes over, sometimes some of my nieces and nephews come over. Once, she stayed upstairs when I visited their house, my brother saying she was studying for a final. Her Facebook reveals that she gets most of her news from the al Jazeera website. My nephew is a Marine and has been to the middle east and I found out from a friend (former friend) of hers that she and my nephew got into a huge fight over it. She's a huge lib.

Except for my brother and mother, all my relatives are “O” worshipers.

It’t too bad, because my Mother is having a 90th birthday in Aug. and I have to have these idiots in my house.

Oh well... we certainly CAN’T talk about politics.

I am finding that even like-minded people are fatigued with politicsal conflict to the point that they just want to "get back to living," which as far as I can tell can mean either tune out or concede everything and go along to get along. I've lost several friends over the last few years for sticking to my guns on the social issues, and I'm not talking about the Facebook kind. Friends I've laughed and cried with, sat vigils at hospitals with and shared the best days of my life with. But I will not compromise my principles and deny God for their peace of mind and comfort, and they have no right to expect me to do so.

So, yeah, it is tough out here right now.

I’ve become pretty skilled at seeing it coming. I have some very close and very liberal friends and we just seem to understand to leave the topic matters alone; or, if I feel like I have to say something, I preface it with “My view on this is very conservative....talking about the bullet train in CA...if this project goes ahead, just like the Bay Bridge, it will cost three times its projected cost, at least half the money will be stolen, some huge factor or factors of ongoing maintenance will have been overlooked by the so-called “expert” planners, and since the route will not connect LA & SF for 15 years, it will serve nobody in the interim and require taxpayer subsidy indefinitely”.

Not so successful with one brother. I just avoid the exercise, frankly. He’s astoundingly tolerant of differing views and has a way of starting a conversation on an equivocal, evenhanded basis, then turning like a vicious snake when it goes one comment too far. And it goes nowhere.

The other brother, we are entirely on the same page.

I make it a point to show my kids how much the government takes out of my paycheck.

And how I could probably pay off my house in 4 years with that, but instead I have a 30 year mortgage.

My sister and BIL have worked very hard their whole lives and have done very well.

I see this occasionally and chock it up to being dropped too many times when they were babies.....:-)

Seriously, both my parents and my wife's parents were flaming lefties, they all did reasonably well, particularly mine. We often struggled against them in their culture of politics, particularly during the Reagan years when we started our own business and became conservative. It got worse through the years. I would counsel you to try to keep the peace if you can, but do let them know you won't stop posting the truth on Facebook. They should know better than to ask you that.

My six 4 legged “children” are extremely loyal. As long as I keep the fleas away and provide them with food and scratches, they are devoted to me. In some ways, they are far better than the 2 legged kind.

I have some extended family that are obots. I did get into it back in 08 with my BIL, who got caught up in all the hope and change crap. Fortunately, he saw the light before 2012.

I have a terrible time with my family in which I’m the eldest of 11, including 4 apparently socially liberal/politically conservative evangelical-Pentecostals who will not stand up to the others (all demlibs).

My parents helped found a RTL chapter way back and have voted dem for years now. My father watches MSLSD, reads the Boston Glob and Concord Vomiter...call themselves pro-life independents...as my father voted for McCain in 2000 primary...so he’s actually not voted once for a dem since of about Nixon era!

Extended family not much better....Concord area.

New England really is g-o-n-e.

My cousin and I no longer speak because he and his looney-tune wife went full Obama in 2008. His wife even went so far as to disrespect our beloved, elderly Aunt over it. If I were to see my cousin today, I'd kick him in the nut sack over his allowance of that.

Apologies to anyone that may have offended. I have a real problem with that kind of disrespect to an elderly family member.
