I read the post, located here - Steele to Rush: I'm Sorry and had to see exactly what Steele said in context. Here's the transcript...
HUGHLEY: You know what we do, we talk like were talking now. You have your view. I have mine. We dont need incendiary rhetoric.
STEELE: Exactly.
HUGHLEY: Like Rush Limbaugh, who is the de facto leader of the Republican Party.
STEELE: No, hes not.
HUGHLEY: I will tell you what
STEELE: Im the de facto leader of the Republican Party.
HUGHLEY: You know what? I can appreciate that. But no one will actually decry down some of the things he says. Like when he comes out and says he wants the president to fail. I understand he wants liberalism to fail. Like, I get its not about the man. But it is still about the idea that he would rather have an idea fail so his idea can move to the forefront. And that would succeed. And that to me is destructive.
STEELE: How is that any different than what was said about George Bush during his presidency?
HUGHLEY: Youre absolutely let me say something. Youre absolutely right.
STEELE: So lets put it into context here. Lets put it into context here. Rush Limbaugh is an entertainer. Rush Limbaugh, his whole thing is entertainment. Yes, its incendiary. Yes, its ugly.
HUGHLEY: He influences the party. And I tell you what, youre the first Republican I have talked to, and I have talked to a lot, to say hes not the leader of his party. I have never heard anybody say that on any show.
Steele went on to apologize (sort of) today and stated that he did not say what he meant; that he was "maybe a little bit inarticulate." If Michael Steele is in fact so inarticulate that he is not able to adequately convey his thoughts to that extent, then he is in no way capable of representing the Republican party.
How is this different than, "it depends on what the meaning of 'is' is"?
I want Michael Steele to succeed, but I'm with Rush. After the last Bush election Rush said he was no longer going to carry water for the Republicans when he disagreed with them. If we are going to succeed as a conservative party we are going to have to hold our own accountable. If we don't we might as well go to the house.
Or did we learn nothing from John McCain???
I can accept his cowardly excuse of being inarticulate as far as Rush— but what about the part where he nods his head and agrees that the 2008 Republican Convention was like NAZI GERMANY?
lol...hardly, you sir are a consequence of invertebratus caucasianus...a recent mass psychosis reminiscent of the old ergot panics
John McCain, two words: Great Campaigner.
Steele was talking about Rush’s entertainment being incindiniary. So what.
If you want to attack Steele, attack him about how he phrased “abortion” in the same interview. He seemed to maybe saying that he choose Republicanism for its individualism first before he knew the GOPs stand on abortion.
Now that would be something that I would dislike.
Yeah... that’s the part that got me too. I just didn’t want to take away from the main point. He was lying and covering his tracks.
I’m used to Democrats thinking everybody is stupid, but it’s hard to swallow coming from supposed conservatives. I’d rather he had just apologized and said he didn’t think through his comments than to say what he said wasn’t what he was thinking... ludicrous.
I want Michael Steele to fail miserably in attempting to maintain the status quo as Democrat-Lite.
I want him to succeed beyond all expectations in re-establishing strict adherence to conservative principles by ALL (R) politicians, and in purging ALL RINOs from the party.
“If you want to attack Steele, attack him about how he phrased abortion in the same interview.”
This is the only excerpt I saw... how did he phrase abortion?
Anyway, the point in this post is that he lied in his apology. Just add it to the list of mortal sins, my friend.
“I want him to succeed beyond all expectations in re-establishing strict adherence to conservative principles by ALL (R) politicians, and in purging ALL RINOs from the party.”
Agreed.
I want to know what made Steele think being RNC Chair makes him the leader of the GOP?
Well, I hate, hate, hate to defend McCain on anything... but today he did two good things and I have to say about time!
>I want him to succeed beyond all expectations in re-establishing strict adherence to conservative principles by ALL (R) politicians, and in purging ALL RINOs from the party.
It just proves that he’s GUTLESS. Snowe, Collins and Specter are still there and they are laughing at his face right now.
“I want to know what made Steele think being RNC Chair makes him the leader of the GOP?”
“Pride comes before a fall... a haughty spirit before destruction.”
I think it’s just a case of the green-eyed monster.
Steele is merely regurgitating the predominant attitude in the OP(formerly the GOP). Consequently we have one big socialist Republcrat party system.
Steele would resign if he had any self-respect after that fiasco.
The problem is that McCain does one thing good and three things bad... how can you defend anything he does when he spends so much time in reverse???
You think you can do something a little more productive with your time?
You got to figure that at the very least that the "de facto leader of the Republican Party" should know that he is not going to convince conservatives that Rush doesn't speak for us, what's next on Mr. Steel's agenda, bad mouthing Reagan?
Good God, is the talent bucket really that empty? We are so screwed.
The pics funny, but the tag line is funnier. At what level was the respect to start with?
(I’m guessing... zero. Do I win a prize?)
