Planned Parenthood Threatens to Sue Student

Planned Parenthood Los Angeles (PPLA) has threatened to file a lawsuit against Lilia Rose, a student journalist at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). The suit stems from an undercover investigation in which Rose recorded herself going into a PPLA clinic in Santa Monica, Calif., posing as a 15-year-old pregnant girl accompanied by her 23-year-”old boyfriend.”

A 23-year old having sex with a 15-year old would be considered statutory rape. In addition, the clinic would be required to report an abortion provided to a 15-year old.

Rose covertly video taped the encounter. The tape revealed that she was advised by PPLA employees to lie about her age, making her situation appear legal. On the tape, a PPLA employee is heard saying “If you’re 15, we have to report it. If you’re not, if you’re older than that, then we don’t need to. You could say 16…well, just figure out a birth date that works. And I don’t know anything.”

Caught breaking the law, PPLA sprang into action. A letter from Mary Jane Wagle, CEO of PPLA, threatened to sue Ms. Rose unless she “immediately relinquished to PPLA the original and any copies of tapes evidencing any wrongdoing by PPLA employees you have recorded without their consent.”

“Our organization’s ability to carry out its mission depends upon complete and total confidentiality,” the letter went on. “We cannot act aggressively to relieve young girls of unwanted pregnancies if we have to worry that people like you are prying into our business. There is no need for you or anyone else to know what goes on behind closed doors between patients and our staff.”

Wagle pointed out that Planned Parenthood is a $900 million-a-year operation and “would not be swayed from our course by a puny college student. We will crush you if that it what it takes to make an example that will deter others of a similar ilk from meddling in matters that don’t concern them.”

It’s probably not being picked up because it’s not a new story. I’ve seen this posted several times on Free Republic, already. It’s the first time I’ve seen the words mentioned in the letter, but it’s not the first time that this investigation was reported and that this is what Planned Parenthood was doing...

She should have first put the video out on YouTube before letting PP know. Once Drudge links to a “shock video”, thats it ! It gets all the coverage it needs.

I think O’Reilly had her as a guest last week.

Well, whenever anyone gets the goods on me, the first thing I do is write them a letter threatening them. I do that for a number of reasons, but mostly I do it because I’m a freakin’ idiot.

Here's a May 11th story on this girl -- Abortion Provider Caught Encouraging Minor to Lie About Age

As you can see, it's not a "Drudge Siren" breaking story, or not even one that just broke. This is not the type of stuff that goes on Drudge, something that is about 10 days old...

It's been all over Free Republic so many times, I don't even hardly look at the new ones. I'm not sure why I looked at this one...

I can understand the story not going on Drudge because it was old. But what about when it was new ? Or did Drudge find out about it too late ?

Here is quote from the story, "Abortion Provider Caught Encouraging Minor to Lie About Age".

Lila Rose, an 18-year-old sophomore at the University of California Los Angeles, visited a Planned Parenthood clinic in the city, posing as a 15-year-old impregnated by her 23-year-old boyfriend. The visit was part of an investigation for The Advocate, a new pro-life magazine distributed on the UCLA campus.
This is the copy of the Planned Parenthood letter.

Well, I don't check Drudge everyday, so it's possible it could have been on there. But, then again, I just don't know. And actually this particular story is not the only story of its kind for Planned Parenthood. There is another story out there of someone suing Planned Parenthood for not reporting this kind of stuff. Thus, maybe it's seen as the same thing of a long string of things that has already been reported several times in the past. If so, then it wouldn't be "new news" even if it were another person -- because several people before this person have reported the very same thing.

??#$%^&%^&??? The Drudge Report should be checked no later than every 9 min and 59 sec. Even when you sleep at night you should have an assistant do that for you( and wake you up if need be).

Here's a Michelle Malkin video on YouTube, which will give you some more background to the story and show how this is not an isolated event (from other investigations, too)...

She should have first put the video out on YouTube before letting PP know.

Apparently she did, as you can see from the Planned Parenthood letter. They state that very thing in their letter. So, I went to hunting for it, but I couldn't find that exact title that they were talking about. There is another one, that looks like it is based upon Lila Rose's video, but maybe not the complete one, I don't know for sure.

But, I did locate the original and full version of the video that Lila Rose posted on YouTube. It is at another news website now. See below...

Here is the full Lila Rose/Planned Parenthood video (takes a while to load as it's a longer file)...

And here is the shortened version, of just the pertinent part.

“Our organization’s ability to carry out its mission depends upon complete and total confidentiality,”

Oh hogwash. The only one with any privacy rights is the patient, and in this case, she's the one that went public.
