WASHINGTON - A majority of Americans disapprove of protests against restrictions aimed at preventing the spread the coronavirus, according to a new poll that also finds the still-expansive support for such limits - including restaurant closures and stay-at-home orders - has dipped in recent weeks.

The new survey from the University of Chicago Divinity School and The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research finds 55% of Americans disapprove of the protests that have popped up in some states as some Americans begin chafing at public health measures that have decimated the global economy. Thirty-one percent approve of the demonstrations.

Democrats are more likely than Republicans to disapprove of such protests, 67% to 51%. Thirty-two percent of Republicans and 25% of Democrats say they approve. Only 8% said public protests, marches and rallies should be unrestricted during the outbreak, while 41% think they should be allowed only with restrictions and 50% think they should not be allowed at all.

Similarly, 67% of Americans now say they favor requiring bars and restaurants to close, down from 76% in the earlier poll. The poll also suggested dipping support for requiring Americans to limit gatherings to 10 people or fewer (from 82% to 75%) and requiring postponement of nonessential medical care (from 68% to 57%).

Were there any polls taken about the antifa thugs? The Ferguson thugs? The Occutard thugs? The oil pipeline thugs? I don't recall any...

I agree.

There should be no need for the protests.

“Democrats are more likely than Republicans to disapprove of such protests”

Of course. Democrats “protest” against liberty and for government.

Protests in favor of liberty and against government are an anathema to them.

So what? If they had taken polls in 1775, the Loyalists would have outnumbered the Revolutionaries.

‘Those Dumb Red-Staters Going To The Beach Deserve To Die,’ Man Tweets From New York Subway Train

NEW YORK, NY—“Those dumb red-staters going to the beach deserve to die!” Dan Robbins tweeted while packed in a subway train in New York City.

Robbins was angered by images of people in red states going outside to enjoy themselves even while the virus still killed many Americans daily. There seems to be a partisan split in attitudes toward the pandemic, with red, less densely populated states not taking it as seriously as those from states that didn’t support Trump. Robbins had trouble composing the tweet, as he was elbow to elbow in the packed subway car.

There had not been much of a partisan split in deaths from COVID-19, though, with New York City itself being the largest single source of casualties from the coronavirus. Robbins had faith, though, that science would eventually punish those who defied it—though he was quickly distracted when he thought he heard someone cough near him.

There should be no need for the protests.

People need to stop being afraid. Open their doors. Walk outside and go on with their lives. That's the four step plan to economic recovery.

Surprisingly, the poll results aren’t as one-sided as you might expect. According to this poll, 32% of Republicans and 25% of Democrats support the protests. My guess is that the 25% of Democrats who support the protests skew heavily younger. And probably male as well.

I could not care less.

The right to free expression is not mainly for those with the popular opinion. They don’t need much constitutional protection.

Idiotic poll. So we should take a poll to measure the sentiment of those who would infringe/trample upon the rights and liberties of others to freely protest and call for redress of their government? Are these the same idiots that were polled who also warship Barry, socialism and a single party rule of authoritarian oligarchs?

Approving of the shutdown, okay, they can have their stupid opinion.

Disapproving of my right to express my disapproval of the shutdown? That’s cause for blood in the streets, theirs or mine. Bring it on. Seriously. Try to stop me. Please.
