Its still unclear what led to the deadly mauling, but a man who used to work with the Stephens said the pet owner loved the canines and was very experienced working with animals, according to WTVR. Other people also said the dogs were social, passive and had a significant bond with Stephens...Agnew confirmed the medical examiner said Stephens was on her menstrual period, but added: But I dont think theres any way we can definitively say what caused the attack.

For a moment, I tried kicking it before pulling my pistol. It was like a large sack of concrete mix and did not budge. That's when I knew I'd have to shoot it in the middle of my neighborhood. The first shot didn't faze it. After the second, the beast dropped my dog and slunk off and collapsed. One of my shots hit muscle in its shoulder and the other hit muscle in its hip. Nothing major was hit, so it survived. The county didn't put it down because it had only attacked another animal and its owner claimed it. For all I know it may have since attacked a human.
I’ve heard one was a great Dane and the other was not a pit bull. Which the hell is it? Somebody/something else might have killed her and dogs followed nature.
Yes. Maybe it’s not a good idea to have pets that apparently become lethal around normal human biology. Supposedly lion tamers will avoid lions completely after they have consumed alcohol because the scent on their breath will provoke enraged attacks by lions.
I watched part of that TV program where ex-cons rehab pits. In one adoption, the pit rehab owner said the adopting person likes to ride a bike and she’d have to check that out with the pit because “pits have such a high prey drive, riding a bike past them” may provoke an attack. So she had a special device attached to a bike to separate the dog and reduce this “trigger” and cautiously tried pedaling with the dog attached to it. Which makes me pity all the people who dare to ride bikes past that dog without that device, those who dare to walk, run, rollerskate and skateboard, who play in the yard throwing water balloons while shrieking or rake leaves with their back turned, who have not been trained to live around the wild, unpredictable, vicious animal being passed off as a pet.
Anti Trump bias does not equal anti pit bias. There’s documented proof that pit bulls kill more people than all other breeds combined.
There are studies at specific hospitals indicating they cost more in medical treatment to recover, if possible, from pit attacks. These animals have too many behavioral attributes in common with wild animals to be considered pets. Most dogs bite and release - pits go in for the kill, etc. etc. etc. Pits hunt people - that isn’t normal pet behavior. If you can’t have a bad day around a pit, if you can’t fall behind on socialization etc. without risking gory death I think it should indicate SOMETHING about its suitability as a pet. There was a horrific killing of an infant and mauling of its owner (doggie jealousy) that pro pit people blamed on the fact that she failed to latch a gate (zero tolerance for imperfect conditions or a human error). Dogs of all types are sometimes subject to the conditions you describe - pits will end up eating rib cages for it far more often than any other type of dog.
Its unclear.
This is just the new code term for ‘we all know why, it’s just that we don’t want to admit it.’
Pit bulls were bred to be ferocious attack dogs. If you think about it, the pit bulls that attack and maul are actually behaving normally for the breed. It’s the ones that are gentle and friendly who are acting abnormally.

I’ve wondered about that. Pits don’t warn before attacking, I’ve watch many videos where they wag their tail and act normal as they approach to maul.
I have wondered how many times a pit has sat looking at its owner, wagging its tail, contemplating attacking or killing its owner over some jealousy or impatience or instinct the dog doesn’t even understand.
I read an account ofa mother and her young pup, much loved and cherished pets. Suddenly mother attacks and mauls owner and pup panics and makes mom stop attacking and then crawls over to a corner and lies there whimpering. It’s as if mental illness takes over and even her pup doesn’t recognize her in her crazy moments.
Pit Bulls require a very Alpha responsible owner.

PIt owners are not responsible. They have a track record of driving off or abandoning attack scenes or lying about their dog’s breed and history of violence. Pit owners choose to own unreliable dogs with track records of killings/maulings to prove they are superior to other owners. Pit owners constantly excuse their dog’s killings/maulings with “He got out.” Pits apparently require a wildlife permit and special approved enclosures because they are known to break through glass doors, screen doors, wire enclosure etc. to pursue human and animal prey. A pit with an alpha owner will often be instinctually driven to try to take the alpha position.
These 3 points in particular are disturbing.
The garbage breed. Especially popular among white trash and ghetto rats.
Don’t see too many where I live. Then again, people here have all their teeth and the women aren’t all fat.
All my rounds were to the upper chest, the snake-shot rounds just stunned it but the 45 rounds just blew it to pieces.
I know a VERY intelligent girl in NYC that owns one of these and keeps it in a small apartment.
I told her she is nuts and that I expected more from an MIT electrical engineer :-/
My hired hand brought around a big dog that he was keeping chained. When I found out I told him the dog goes. There is no reason to keep a dog you have to chain and control like that. They are a liability and anyone who keeps them deserves what he gets.
Not smart.
I have a Chihuahua/pit bull mix. Smaller than a pit, but bigger than a chihuahua. Very strong, and hard to hold down. Sweet as pie with us, but barks at everything that moves outside. I think she gets that from her pappy (chihuahua). Very protective. If a stranger visits, we have to put her in the kennel until she gets used to them.
My family had a chocolate lab. Great dog. OTOH, I’ve only been attacked while walking my dog by two dogs—two different black labs, both vicious curs. (There was a little yappy dog but my boy just pinned him with his paw and looked at me like, “What do I do now?”)
This young woman had tats she’s hiding, at least in all the photos I’ve seen. She had full `sleeves’. And I read elsewhere that she may have been into selling guns in volume and other things. There may have been other dogs involved as well.
As usual here, there’s prolly more to this story than we’re getting from the article and the usual comments following such articles.
Okay. Point taken.
I simply can not tolerate any form of animal abuse.
There seems there was another dog similar to the one on her page involved now.
She stopped posting to FB a few months ago, presumably due to the death threats.
At this point, there is so much confusion, I have no idea what to make of it all.
One person says “there was not enough left to ID bites”, another says the bites were definitely not a bear.
The weirdness about the dad waiting 2 days, not messing with the dogs, her only visiting them occasionally.
Now they say they found the dogs “eating” her remains?
This does happen occasionally when an owner dies and their pets [dogs, cats, lizards] being starved, do what they must, since “mom” or “dad” no longer is so, to them, but two days would not qualify as ‘starvation’ to me.
I have *no* idea WTF is going on down there.
My great concern is the possibility that somebody, somewhere, got away with killing her.
The dogs are dead now so that’s a moot point.
I really hope some FB spook kept a record of the Lopez *and* Bauer posts as those guys were entirely too gleeful about her death.
[and to a lesser extent, everyone who cheered her death because she had rebel flag pix on there]
Her page is now only a “memorial page” and all the posts are gone, save the ones she made before she died.
Whatever happened to her, it’s gonna be *long* time before I walk in the woods alone, again.
Maybe never.
The “experts” said, alternately yet concurrently, “there was not enough left to determine bites” and “the bites were not those of a bear”.
Seems she had another dog similar to the brindle dog, whatever he was.
Maybe a litter mate since she allegedly raised them from puppies.
We’ll never know, now.
