What happened? When did journalism become "unrealiable" for some people? What the hell is going on? Why is it becoming irrelevant? CBS hired Jeff Glor for CBS Evening News, no one cares. What's going on?

Journalism is not just unreliable, it is almost always false from the notable leftist networks and newspapers. I think they believe an informed public is dangerous for socialism/communism and they are right. They are making sure that their viewers are completely backward in what they believe because it advances leftism.

Depends upon how long you’ve been paying attention. About 40 years for me.

When individual journalists started becoming ‘personalities’ and celebrities, journalism started becoming more about form and less about substance. If you haven't seen the Youtube video of Lawrence O’Donell acting imperious, swearing, and melting down during breaks in a newscast, you should. The egos of the media celebrities is astounding, and incredibly unprofessional. The concept of media celebrity is at odds with journalistic integrity.

To hear my late father tell it, the media became unreliable during the Watergate scandal. And my dad was a life-long Democrat (although he voted for Nixon and Reagan).

It started in 1970. It got progressively worse through Nixon and Careter.

Then CNN was launched. The rise of 24 hour news and the decline of the printed press accelerated it.

The internet diluted “real journalism” to the point where newsrooms started falling apart. The news had to become entertainment because most Americans can no longer read or pay attention to anything longer than three minutes.

Walter Cronkite.

I’d go along with that, he was a pompous jackass who took himself and his opinions way too seriously.

Now, at the nets & most local channels, you just got interchangeable airhead celebs who can read a teleprompter.

In the 1980s I read an American newspaper report on an incident that I happened to have been at.

They lied through their teeth. I don't mean they slightly shaded the facts I mean they made up things that did not happen and did not report things that did.

I never believed another thing I read as something close to fact until I confirmed it from two or three different sources.

As my mother would say, "paper will lie still and let you put anything on it."

I think Watergate was where they found they were the masters of the country. They pulled a media coup that brought down a President.

McCarthy as an important step on the way there.

Wikipedia gives a brief summary of the press involvement in the Spanish/American War. “Several forces within the United States were pushing for a war with Spain. Their tactics were wide-ranging and their goal was to engage the opinion of the American people in any way possible. Men such as William Hearst, the owner of The New York Journal was involved in a circulation war with Joseph Pulitzer of the New York World and saw the conflict as a way to sell papers. Many newspapers ran articles of a sensationalist nature and sent correspondents to Cuba to cover the war. Correspondents had to evade Spanish authorities; usually they were unable to get reliable news and relied heavily on informants for their stories. Many stories were derived from second or third hand accounts and were either elaborated, misrepresented or completely fabricated by journalists to enhance their dramatic effect. Theodore Roosevelt, who was the Assistant Secretary of the Navy at this time, wanted to use the conflict both to help heal the wounds still fresh from the American Civil War, and to increase the strength of the US Navy, while simultaneously establishing America as a presence on the world stage. Roosevelt put pressure on the United States Congress to come to the aid of the Cuban people. He emphasized Cuban weakness and femininity to justify America’s military intervention.”

I’m quite certain that media manipulation didn’t begin here but this was spectacular.

Another vote for 1932 and the adoration FDR received from them.

It was as bad as the Obama coverage.

Especially at the local level.

The local “news” here consists of a couch full of giggling women, both male and female.

The “Fake Hews” contrived phenomenon was a leftist idea that has turned around and stung them. The news as we know it is as bad as any propaganda. Journalism has been rotting away for years as the industry has been filled with libtards and those who write no better than children.

At first:

there were no alternatives the Left was careful not to abuse their media monopoly; they’d nose the ball 1 nanometer into the endzone for the touchdown, then do NO victory dance and act all surprised and bashful, “Gosh, what happened..? My word...!”

They wanted Their Side to win but also keep their conservative viewership, capiche..?

There was no reason to spike the football in our faces and in fact, there were many reasons to never do so.

BUT THEN:

Talk radio and the internet meant the end of the Left’s Media Monopoly. Conservatives could find news far that completely agreed with them. Even if the left’s news made great efforts to continue as they had before, conservatives didn’t want “lost but by just 1 nanometer” pablum.

In comes Fox news, etc.

SO THEN:

Lefty news specializes in informing their OWN —SCREW conservatives.

There’s no longer any reason to pretend cuz the conservatives aren’t watching anyway.

AND NOW:

ANYONE can be a journalist. And he will almost certainly do the job better than some fool who shelled out tuition for Columbia School of Journalism:

A gift-shop clerk, a World of Warcraft review scribe, a Lucky Charms guy, a guy whose mom had to drive him to college for a full semester before he quit, etc.

How bout this one;

World War I photo - The photo shows a man in front of a firing squad and the caption said the man was an enemy spy. The photo was a fake and the photographer was actually posing as the spy. It has since been used as a photo from WWII.
