Friend Who Lived in France Says Their Health System Superior
Self | 5/6/2017 | Self

Posted on 05/06/2017 5:43:53 AM PDT by PeaRidge

My friend, who lived in France for five years, and now in US, thinks our new health system is not only unnecessarily inadequate, but unsophisticated.

She says that in France that:

You get immediate appointments

Immediate treatment

World class results

Mideast sheiks go there

Relatively low cost meds (if you have to pay at all)

Latest improvements

All Free

To pay for this, she says All French citizens pay taxes.

Everyone pays the same percentage tax....35%

One page tax filing

To fellow Freepers......truth please.

Tens of thousands die routinely in France when a heat wave hits.

The difference between France and the US is statistically insignificant

We had one up until the passage of Medicare in the late fifties early sixties. Since then pricing and what is considered standard care has been driven by govt regulations. Congress passes more and more bills inflicting more and more regulations

Folks who have gone to India for some of these low cost surgeries find out real quick that sanitation standards and medical expertise come at a cost.

Low price does not mean good care

I know our medical system all too well.

My father was killed by some self described brilliant doctors at scripps who didn’t have the foggiest idea what they were doing.

My mother had a similar OP to my $2,000 event in Bavaria in California - cost to medicare $64,000 !

The corruption and incompetence of the US medical industry is legendary. That’s why it’s ranked at the absolute bottom.

What is the status of your friend compared to the average Frog? When it comes to those with socialized medicine, there are definite “caste” system that determine who gets what kind of service.

How long ago was this? It is not robotics that is used but laporoscopy to minimize invasiveness. This has been standard care for thirty years

Thank you. These stories need to be told. The idea that somehow care.can be given cheaply with good sanitation practise is just nonsense.

I don’t think people understand what hospitals look like in other parts of the world

Was your friend there in France during the summer of 2003? The doctors were on vacation and many refused to come home once the emergency was issued. There is very little AC in Europe.

My grandmother died during that heat wave, August 14, 2003. We could not bury her until mid September. She lived in Germany. We lost two more family friends during that period

I agree. Also the data is old and France has been rationing lately despite spending >50% of GDP on welfare, government health care, etc.

Talk to Gerard Depardieu or Johnny Depp about those “35%” taxes! Depardieu preferred Russian winters to what he was paying!

I disagree. There are many brilliant doctors and many good hospitals in this country. Plus the research is outstanding. Bad things happen to everyone.

Simple answer...When the government pays for your healthcare the government will determine what healthcare you will get, when you will get it and may deny you care altogether if they deem you to be too old, too young or your treatment is too expensive. While your prescriptions may be free or low cost are you getting the most effective medications with the fewest side effects or are stuck with what the government is willing to pay for?

Even in the US, healthcare insurance providers may nickle and dime you to death quite literally with your prescriptions. After trying numerous medications for my hypertension none of which reduced my blood pressure, my doctor finally found the right drug that worked phenomenaly in reducing my blood pressure. However, the drug was a newer one which at the time no generic equivalent. My insurance company balked at the cost and had me try another series of medications in the same class that were available as generics. For nearly two years I bounced between other medications none of which worked and my blood pressure remained at times dangerously high. Finally my original medication became generic and the insurance company would pay the still quite high cost. Imagine dealing with an army of faceless bureaucrats if you were under a government run system and had the same problem.

Great video.

At about 10:05, a real example of what happens in a "free healthcare" system.
