Don’t Let Trump’s Win Fool You—America’s Getting More Liberal
Wired ^ | 15 Dec, 2016 | AUTHOR: ISSIE LAPOWSKY

IN ONE OF the most incisive pieces of post-election pop culture so far, Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock on Saturday Night Live school an election night party full of blithely ignorant white liberals on the deep, persistent currents of American racism.

“Because of changing demographics, there might never be another Republican president in this country,” cast member Beck Bennett says in the sketch.

Chappelle glares at him, dumbfounded. “Word?” he says. “You ever been around this country before?”

The gag of course is the fact that, as a black man, Chappelle has seen the country at its ugliest, its least inclusive, so he can understand how a candidate like Donald Trump, with his hardline stance on immigration and tough-on-crime policies, might just succeed. Bennett’s character is still living in his white liberal bubble.

And yet it’s not a bubble formed entirely by delusions. Even as the Electoral College votes today to make Trump president, the United States is becoming more liberal. Just look at the data.

Over the eight years Barack Obama has served as president, public opinion in the United States has shifted decisively leftward. Think about it. When Obama came to office, he still hadn’t publicly supported same sex marriage. Last year, the White House was lit up in rainbow colors to celebrate the Supreme Court’s decision to legalize same-sex marriage. Over the last year, bottom line-driven businesses have boycotted entire states over discriminatory policies against LGBT people. A law prohibiting transgender people from using the bathroom of their choice just cost North Carolina’s Pat McCrory the governorship. Undocumented immigrants have come out of hiding, banding together online to discuss their struggles. And in November, California, Maine, Massachusetts, and Nevada all voted to make recreational marijuana legal.

Pooor poor black celebrities and athletes. Getting opprezsed to the tune of 10s of millions of dollars per year is just so unfair in this racist nation.

Bob Hope, touring the world in the year or so after the passage of the 1975 Consenting Adult Sex Bill:
“I’ve just flown in from California, where they’ve made homosexuality legal. I thought I’d get out before they make it compulsory.”

For some, the terms conservative and traditional are synonymous. I disagree. Sometimes tradition only indicates a habit not yet broken or questioned.

Over the eight years Barack Obama has served as president, public opinion in the United States has shifted decisively leftward.

And after "public opinion" did so well predicting the last election, why would anyone trust this public opinion assertion?

you guys kill me on this board sometimes. You say the East Coast like it’s one person LOL. You can’t seem to grasp that there a quite a few Republicans on the East Coast. But if it makes you guys feel good that’s fine. but with Southern States backing off of bathroom laws out of fear and Texas putting up beautiful mosques, I would look at yourself in the mirror first :)

I love you but the southern state you’re alluding to was lost to Yankees

North Carolina

Whites in the northeast are stats wise twice as likely to vote lib on average than southerners

But yes you and no pardons and marmelstein and twink

All great folks buck the majority

I validate you all the time

The south has always been socially conservative relative to the era

Whites are homogeneous here

Shared mostly non catholic identity

And roots here since pre revolution

I have not one ancestor I know of that is post revolution immigrant

Quite different up north..

My ancestry bought hook line and sinker the American romanticism of our founding at least for whites

Later immigrants not the same ....think Fabians

SNL is one of the last places I’d ever look to for conventional wisdom or any other kind of wisdom. Theirs is a kind of ‘whiz-dumb’ if you ask me. People would be better off if they just tuned out of this sad tradition of unfunny Saturday night stuff. It’s like a crying out for approval and all they get is sympathy in the form of forced applause only because it has name (SNL) recognition.

There is one valid point in that whole bit. Changing demographics are a serious problem

Correct, twice! This article is mostly blind and self-serving. But on immigration, Trump is the one chance to save a culture and a government.

For some reason, the article failed to mention religion, the other trend that could ruin us. Church attendance declines by roughly 1% per year. And just one election win won't help with this enough.

That is just a metric, but it explains the loss of academia, the media, families, small businesses, and some of the political issues the article mentions.

exactly. Also the south is on the west coast, it is just that the south on the whole is very different to the north east.

“I have not one ancestor I know of that is post revolution immigrant”

I’ve got one. Indentured servant who arrived from Bavaria around 1803. Everybody else was here before Revolution.

Why would we think otherwise after Trump won in a landslide? This is the type of stupid shiite that will keep them a minority for decades to come.

Which is why he won. Which is why the Congress went Republican the Governorships are going Republican and things will go that way even more come the mid-term elections. Americans are sick and tired of the path that this country has been forced on by the MSM and its far left cheerleaders. We are about to right the ship and get sailing in a positive direction again!
