Antique SKS rifle used by Dallas Killer (No Ar-15 used)

Initial reports from Dallas described multiple snipers with AR-15s #weaponsofwar. The ongoing propaganda theme among the tabloids is that the AR-15 has become the weapon of choice for terrorists and mass shooters. It turns out that the terrorist in Dallas question used an antique, the SKS, (according to CBS News) but the facts never keep the press from a good propaganda theme.

The SKS was designed in the 40’s in Russia. It is such a basic rifle that it is legal in California with no modification. With its fixed ten round magazine, the SKS is everything that the gun haters in California say a rifle must be. It is not black, no pistol grip, no flash hider or folding stock. It even shoots a intermediate power cartridge, 7.63 X 39. It is used as a cheap hunting gun across the US. I am sure that at this moment, some law maker in California is writing new legislation to close the mad man with an antique rifle loophole.

Martin Bryant had the IQ of a turnip, yet armed with and FN-FAL (7.62x51/.308 WIN) killed 35 and wounded 23 others. At least that is what we have been told. Questions remain. Evidence tampered with, etc.

This 1996 incident in Tasmania was used as a pretext to essentially disarm Australia....

I believe the classic pejorative for this application is “bushwhacker.”

If he had an SKS. That is NO sniper rifle. He was using it as a battle rifle in an extremely target rich environment. (With all due respect for the brave officers who were killed or injured)

Quick magazine change would make a difference.

It is better to keep your SKS with the original fixed mag/10rd stripper clip design.

Attempting to convert this rifle with detachable mags are pretty unreliable.

Thank you for clearing that up.

I watched and listened to what was going on that night. A person cannot be in two places at the same time.

There was more than one shooter in Dallas that night.

There were chicom sks models that were imported with detachable mags and 16 inch barrels.

As a matter of fact, if I remember correctly, it was the importers that asked the chinese to cut some down and import them that way. The true sks never had a military model which was a “paratrooper” model.

Yes there was only the man on the upper floor, the man at street level on the cell phone video was an optical illusion caused by mass hysteria which is the same reason UFOs do not exist.

Also the same reason that an eye witnesses to the capture of the Boston Bombers saw something totally different and has never been heard from since. Or the reason George Soros who is very proud of his Nazi past is untouchable. Or the reason that NASA always lies.

It is all part of the same thing whatever it really is.

I had no problem with the shooter getting dead. What I do have a very big problem with is when any policing agency decides to become judge, jury and executioner. The robot bomb thing is just wrong.

Since a police sniper would've put this guy down eventually, I don't see how the robot made things worse. And as far as the police acting autonomously in these matters, well, you can bet that the command post was linked with the mayor and possibly Greg Abbott as well. That's what those big mobile rigs with all the telecom equipment are for.

Some SKS have/had a propensity to “slam fire.” Go full-auto. This caused more than one shooter to be ejected from a range and also, more than one getting a visit from BATF. I believe it was the early Russian models??

He thought the robot was delivering a cell phone that he had demanded.

“If it goes ‘BANG’, it’s an AR-15.”

And, to the media, anyone who uses aimed fire is a “sniper”

Agreed. Stripper clips make the SKS reloads slick and fast. There's a Chinese 20-round fixed magazine that may be a good compromise, you just use two clips to top it off.

Pretty funny. Never read that in the manual but you used field expediency. By the way the Knuckleheads in the State here decided that you can't have a gun with a Bayonet on it so all the SKS’s had to have them removed before they could sell them, even though nobody has ever been bayoneted with one as far as I know.

“slam fire.” Go full-auto.”

Yep very true. The firing pin on an sks is tapered, while the hole in the bolt is round. Any rust or surface deformity on the firing pin and it may get stuck forward. In this case everytime the gun cycles it will fire. Usually a good cleaning will take care of it or in bad cases a new firing pin.

Also with all the wore out chinese milsup out there I have seen loose stocks cause bump firinf, which runs a pretty fast rate too. Although at least that problem will stop firing once your finger is off the trigger lol.

"And all were cut down from originals"

Correct.

I have fired two of those Chicom "Paratroop" carbines and they both sucked.

One of them had the flasshguard off center and every round would deflect 1-3ft at 50yds. But not consistently to the very same spot.

On the other, the front sight was off center from the rear. After adjust as best as possible, it was still consistently (as consistent as a short barreled SK gets) 8in high and to the left at 50m.

Once I fired an original SK battle rifle and it was darn sweet.
