Antique SKS rifle used by Dallas Killer (No Ar-15 used)

Initial reports from Dallas described multiple snipers with AR-15s #weaponsofwar. The ongoing propaganda theme among the tabloids is that the AR-15 has become the weapon of choice for terrorists and mass shooters. It turns out that the terrorist in Dallas question used an antique, the SKS, (according to CBS News) but the facts never keep the press from a good propaganda theme.

The SKS was designed in the 40’s in Russia. It is such a basic rifle that it is legal in California with no modification. With its fixed ten round magazine, the SKS is everything that the gun haters in California say a rifle must be. It is not black, no pistol grip, no flash hider or folding stock. It even shoots a intermediate power cartridge, 7.63 X 39. It is used as a cheap hunting gun across the US. I am sure that at this moment, some law maker in California is writing new legislation to close the mad man with an antique rifle loophole.

I know I’ll get flamed for this, and I’m happy the creep is dead, BUT wasn’t that murder?

What about his constitutional rights? Due process?

He was contained was he not? What was the hurry? Wait him out. Sometimes it takes days. Maybe he would have eventually given up, killed himself or committed suicide by cop.

Those would have been justified, but to send in a bomb, sounds like murder to me. Just sayin.

I would throw the switch, pull the handle, push the button, pull the trigger, or stick the needle in his arm if this guy had his day in court. DUE PROCESS.

It might have been profitable to have been able to water board, I mean interrogate him.

He was a former soldier. He certainly would know the dangers involved in simply letting it crawl up on him. After all, he was not some 3rd world stooge.

I initially thought shots sounded like AK fire. Surprised weapon an SKS. Same caliber, but still...

In the “old days” one could purchase and SKS- NIB at various Arkansas gun shows for $75. Those days gone forever. Some even going for $500. on internet gun sites. Not me.

To him it WAS war. So, he employed tactics that are common in war. I vehemently oppose WHAT he did, and I hope he burns in hell for all eternity, but if his aim was to be as effective as possible (which is what war is all about), the tactics he employed were sound. And, he did not fire on unarmed civilians; he fired on armed men and women. You find more fault with his tactics than with the crime itself.

Someone had purchased an AR the other day and posted about it. I mentioned that I didn't need an AR here:

Was telling my wife that the shots (heard online) did not sound like a .223, but something with a little bit more punch. Happy with mine. Shoots beautifully and doesn't jam. Ammo cheap and readily available. Absolutely no need to be shooting police at all. The problem is going to be these leftists eventually arming up and shooting conservatives. They (and the muslims) hate us so much, they'll be acting on it.

Interesting to watch the shooter outmaneuver the policeman in the video. He ripped off shots to keep him pinned, paused, knew he was right handed from observation or the probability that under stress he would go to his right hand dominance and come around the right side of the pillar. He was right. Went to the weak side (left) and got him from behind. Policeman should have tried to retreat using the pillar as cover (if possible) to await backup or retreated as far away from the pillar as possible and gotten down on the ground in a prone position to present as low a profile as possible to shoot back. Oh well, 20-20 hindsight. In war you don't get a second chance like in the video games.

Hey Dude, this is Texas, still with good old frontier justice. You kill us, we kill you back.

This just saved us a lot of time and money. The black police chief did exactly the right thing. Good for him.

Being military trained, he realized that stationary shooters get flanked very quickly. That is why you shoot and move. To keep from being flanked. It is how he was able to shoot so many white officers. He fired shots, the police converged on the spot where shots were fired, but he wasn’t there. He had moved someplace else. Then shot again. Not only a sound tactic for maximizing killing, but makes it appear like multiple shooters and that forces police to delay and divide their resources.

Thing is, he was held by police in the garage for hours, so if there truly was a 2nd shooter, there would have been shots fired while the pinned down guy was engaged. There wasn’t any shooting and killing from other places after the perp was contained in a corner of the garage. So you can logically conclude there was only 1 shooter.

If it goes ‘BANG’, it’s an AR-15.

Didn't bark fast enough to be that, on auto. I know the sound of that...and hate it.

Shooter did shoot some strings of shots fairly rapidly though.

At one time they were selling for as low as $69.

That $69 also included a spam can of ammo.

And a can opener!

Wan’t suggesting it was full auto AK. Have heard that as well. Going by sound only via cell phone video/my iPAD Mini. Guy was relentless in pursuit...

If there was any possible chance he could escape and kill more people, then the police were justified in neutralizing the threat. That is not murder.

Now if the police incontrovertibly knew the perm was harmlessly contained except for rushing the cops in a suicidal move, then it MIGHT be murder.

This instance, since we don’t know any of the specific circumstances, we can’t say it was murder. If he was contained on the 1st story of the garage away from stairs and elevators, but they still worried he could jump to the ground and continue his killing spree, then the police are warranted to neutralize that threat.

Add to this that the shooter had no prior arrests, making him eligible for a legal gun purchase, and what the heck is Obama yammering about gun control yet again???

Not only that, but the shooter was, at one time, a member of the US military. So our government trusted him to have access to a very wide variety of weapons, including machine guns, mortars, anti-tank missiles, and so on. Following the logic of the anti-gun crowd, you need to do background checks to make sure it is safe for a particular person to have access to "weapons of war". And presumably the US military branches do just that.

But that scheme obviously didn't work. You can't guarantee safety by enforcing some kind of test, or even doing something wildly unconstitutional like limiting firearms ownership to certain "trained" groups, like veterans or retired and current duty police officers.

The shooter was a dirtbag, and I’m glad the robot blew him up, but the fact that he was in concealment does not equate to him being a coward.

I agree.

I have no problem with him being blown up although I would have preferred he was taken alive and told why he was doing it, but alas, we agree firing from concealment does not a coward make.

I’m surprised he didn’t shoot the robot before it got too close.

He thought the robot was delivering a cell phone that he had demanded.
