It is better to keep your SKS with the original fixed mag/10rd stripper clip design.

Attempting to convert this rifle with detachable mags are pretty unreliable.

Agreed. Stripper clips make the SKS reloads slick and fast. There's a Chinese 20-round fixed magazine that may be a good compromise, you just use two clips to top it off.

I had a Russian SKS made in 1950 that was very well finished the stock was cherry wood. It was a beautiful rifle and under 100 yards accurate in my hands. About 20 years ago I decided that I didn't want any commie weapons and sold my SKS, AK47, AK74, Mosins, Mackarovs, and Tokoravs. I only now have basic US weapons.
