The number of Fiat Chrysler factory workers in North America will increase as the company reduces production of passenger cars and shifts toward trucks and SUVs, the companys chief executive said Tuesday. [ ]
He (Sergio Marchionne) said new Ram pickup truck will come out at the beginning of 2018. It will be built at two U.S. factories in suburban Detroit, so it wont cost the company any production of the current model.
A factory in Sterling Heights, Michigan, that now makes the Chrysler 200 sedan will be retooled to make pickups, he said. The company also plans to build a compact Jeep to replace the Compass and Patriot at a plant in Toluca, Mexico, he said.

I see very few of the Fiat 500s around.
Half good news. We need to get that one factory out of Mexico.
Doesn’t say how many jobs, and it doesn’t make up for the damage to our economy. Also, we are financing the cars with the same sort of financing that brought the banks down in 2008.
Plus, there is always a caveat to these stories. It is costing us some how. It is all one big lie.

Is that the factory where the PT Cruisers were built??
I see a reasonable amount here in the Albuquirky metro area. When they first came out with them, and started selling them here, I saw two of them abandoned along side a major highway, in the middle of nowhere, with no one around. Figured Tony was going to be busy the next day.
Fiat Chrysler's shift from sedans like the Chrysler 200 (which gets humdrum fuel economy, considering its size) to Jeeps, trucks, and SUVs, indicates where the profits are, and as Sergio hasn't had so much as a nibble regarding sale of Chrysler, and because crude prices have cratered, we'll probably see the same thing we saw during the Clinton years -- bigass trucks running $30K and up all over the place. I'd read a report that he intends to revive the Neon nameplate, but it will be an altered existing Fiat model and produced in Mexico. Thanks Olog-hai.
Pickup trucks are being built in the USA because there are tariffs on their import.
Shhh.
Don’t let that out.
It isn’t overly clear but it looks like the only new production hiring is in Mexico (in “North America”) and Brazil and China. http://www.detroitnews.com/story/business/autos/chrysler/2016/04/26/fiat-chrysler-confirms-ram-jeep-production/83538796/
Chrysler’s CEO is on the record publicly stating he never wanted to bring the FIAT to American, hates it because they lose money every time they sell one and will not sell one more than he must by law..... They sell them to keep their overall fleet CAFE standards in balance, that’s the only reason that thing is on american roads.
Glad to hear it!
Here’s my Mopar. Hopefully that is viewable.

Lots of pickups built in Canada and Mexico. Mexico is where a lot of Fords are built.
Assembly in Mexico and Canada is exempt from most tariffs because of NAFTA. There are weird details though, and not all pickups built in Mexico are exempt.
I have a 2015 TorRed SXT Plus. V-6 with the 8 Speed Auto.
Sold my 2014 Corvette Stingray. Needed a more useful Car, but it had to have two doors.
I have been pleasantly surprised. The V-6 makes 300 HP and it came with the brand new 8 Speed Automatic.
I was that close to getting a Hellcat, but I just couldn't justify the Money.
Loved the Corvette, but I couldn't get over the fact that it cost twice as much as my first House. Must have been Catholic Guilt, or deep down I'm just a cheap bastard. Got it off my Bucket List.
Just like Ted Cruz, the Challenger was made in Canada. LOL
I have nothing against them except for that whole Obama versus the auto industry and submission on GMC and Chrysler’s part. I actually owned an elderly Fiat 600 and a new 128 Sports Coupe while stationed in Italy. Of course, over there, every Tony and his brother owned a garage. Good little zipping around cars.
2013 Dodge Challenger R/T Plus with “external appearance package”, otherwise known as a T/A. It has the 5.7l Hemi.
My folks had a Spider convertible in 1978 or 1979. Can't remember for certain. It was a pile. The top was manual, and a pain in the butt to put up/take down, and stopped rain about as well as a screen door. Plus, even as a kid, I didn't fit in the back seat. I had to sit on one side, and drape my legs across the back to the other side. Only room for three in there, no second person in the back seat.
