Been here since 98, which is why I don't toss out the "I've been here longer so shut up" tactic that sadly has reared its head a lot lately. When I try it- some class of 97 guy kicks my arse and calls me noob. (yeah, old joke but I laugh)
Been lurking more than posting lately but wonder where we all stand on things in this race and on Free Republic.

1. Betweeen Cruz, Rubio, and Trump only...please list in order of preference if they were your only choices for president.
2. Are the current flame wars on Free Republic the same we always see during a presidential primary season or worse?
3. Of these 5 issues only: Abortion, Homosexual Marriage, Illegal immigration, Muslim refugees, Obamacare... please list in order of most important to stop to least important. (Least important in no way means "not important". Even if an issue is #5 on THIS list, its may still be #5 out of 100 issues for you. Im just comparing to these other 4 for perspective.)

I've been back and forth on Cruz and Trump and feel Rubio, while pro-life and originally conservative when 1st elected-in my mind has become too establishment.
While the current flame wars are rough, we will survive like we always do over the years.
I was close to putting Abortion first, but I think the first step at this point is denying more democrat voters so that why Illegal immigration came in as #1 and why Trump is such a tempting choice. IMHO Homosexual marriage is sick but its so ingrained I'm just not sure fighting it at THIS point should sway my presidential choice more than these other 3 issues I ranked above it.
Be glad to know your thoughts. Lets try to keep the flaming to a low roar :)

Class of ‘02 so I don’t call anyone noob.
As I see it in 2008 and 2012 we were forced into supporting the lesser evil candidates. Although the 2016 candidates all have their flaws as well, at least they’re worth supporting. I think that’s why the carping has been nastier.
BTW: NO ONE is gonna what exactly what they want.

2) I didn’t know of FR until August 2000, so the fist election that was contested for me here wasn’t until 2008. Neither 08 or 12 were as heated as this one. 2012 had a war between the Newt and Santorum people, but it was too late to stop Romney, and was pretty tame.

2. I don’t remember it being this contentious but I also don’t remember this many good choices. As someone said in the debate, any of these candidates would be better than Clinton or sanders.

Unfortunately, this happens every four years. People start flaming on each other. It may be worse this cycle because there are more candidates. There has been a fairly strong echo chamber thing going on here in the last year or so.

This is the worst I have seen on FR so far, and what bothers me about it is that we are not discussing the issues, but just shouting at each other, hurling invective, insults, and acting worse than DU. It sickens me that our one fine forum has deteriorated so much.
