Need HR lawyer recommendation

I need the recommendation of an HR attorney / law firm in North Texas regarding an HR issue. At work, you can get 20 notices of "yeah, same sex marriage!" postings on the internal intranet. I posted one link to an article discussing why Obgerfell was such a radical decision, didn't even post the text. Was reprimanded that this was: A. a violation of diversity policy B. offensive to lbgta C. politicking at work

Had a separate issue where a woman asked for advice regarding her husband wanting to cheat on her with a man, but keep the family together. I advised that if she'd tolerate him cheating, whether with a man or woman, get disease testing, lay down strict rules on the propriety and don't let him waste her money on that person. And if she wanted to leave, I could refer her to a good divorce attorney. I was told this was homophobic and an inappropriate topic at work. I said an aggrieved woman was asking for advice, so if my response was inappropriate, so was the whole discussion. I stated to HR that a woman with four young children under 10 was seeking advice, so I gave what was normal advice 20 years ago. And the fact that she was repeatedly referred to spouses of same sex groups meant I was the only contrary opinion ... That was a prior warning.

Another case had a guy asking about advice on his 17 year old son coming out at homosexual at 15, now decides he's transgendered. Father asked advice, I said counseling to rectify mind with reality. That was homophobic/transphobic.

Telling a woman whose husband left her for a guy that it was so tragic a 30 year marriage ended led to a direct challenge with someone else. I stated that it was sad that he abandoned his family due to his feelings, that do what you feel trumps do what you promised to do and had been doing for decades.

I've received written warnings for these issues, in the past year. Don't want to get fired with this type of negative file, don't know what to do otherwise.

Does anyone know a good HR attorney to minimize the long term career impact of standing up for my principles?

It is hard to be a rational thinker in the midst of insanity. I wish you well with all of this. I do not know of anyone to recommend.

Start cross dressing and they’ll drop the issue.

And tell them you’re black too.

Do you know of any lawyers at all? If so, you can call them and ask them for a referral. I have found lawyers know other lawyers or heard of good ones. Hope this helps.

I am a lawyer and I can give you some valuable HR advice that won't cost you a dime: Zip your mouth about non-work issues when you are at work! Why are you advising co-workers about their marital and familial problems? And why are you posting anything for or against gay marriage to work websites or from work computers? Yes, it may be nuts that employers have jumped on the gay marriage bandwagon, but does that mean that you, too, should act unprofessionally? I read your post and wondered, “Doesn't this guy have an actual JOB to do? Why does he have the time to yak with coworkers about their divorces, etc?”

If you don't stop talking about non-work matters while you are at work, you are going to get fired — not laid off; FIRED — very soon. While I don't think your viewpoints should get you fired, I can tell you that it sounds as if HR can make a strong, legitimate case that when you're at work, you don't spend enough time...at work.

internal intranet

***************

Maybe just leaving the ‘internal intranet’ alone would help the situation.

This is going to be the way of it from now on.

If you want to be REAL proactive, you could convert to Islam, and that would trump all their BS.

ISIS might even decide to take a few "selfies" with your co-workers...

Can’t give advice on legal HR issues. I didn’t even stay at a Holiday Inn Express. But I can give some common logic advice on your workplace character and co-worker relations.

You seem like the type of person that is respected enough to seek out for opinion. Otherwise you are the outspoken and opinionated person that “gets involved” voluntarily. We’ll assume the former rather than the latter.

#1. Shhhh. Stop giving advice at work and, if you must or feel so inclined, seek a place to meet after hours.

#2. Start looking for another job yesterday.

You must be a very approachable, considerate, trust worthy, Christian leader, popular among your peers and of high moral character to invite the type of intimate trust your colleagues find in you. Still, several folks must have ratted you out to compile a list with HR that long.

Please forgive me for not answering your question. Instead, I'd like to pass a little story along. A conservative friend of mine was very vocal about political issues at work. End result? The company fired her for being "disorganized". She's now in her mid-40's, with few job prospects. And her efforts changed nothing.

Please, please don't let that happen to you. Advocate, but advocate away from the workplace. Even though lib's can get away with it, it's really not appropriate anyway.

Good luck.

If you value your job, how you can even open your mouth one sliver on this stuff is beyond me. There is utterly no way you can come out on the right side of any of these issues if you any sense of traditional morals or values. Zip it!

Your principles don’t mean much to an organization that hired you to work and produce an output you should be qualified to produce at a rate that keeps you employed. This other stuff gets you fired. I’ll bet you are already on the 1 to n list at number 1.

Why are you advising co-workers about their marital and familial problems

Yeah, that's what's got me confused. I'm thinking are you a psychologist and this is something you're discussing with patients? If you're just an average guy/gal - why on earth are you discussing this stuff at work? Especially after you apparently were written up about it. Seems very odd to me. And if you were discussing at work, how did your bosses find out? Seems it would be a closed conversation between you and someone else. If I had these issues, believe me, I would not be discussing such things where other co-workers could overhear and actually, being me, I would never discuss these issues at work anyway. Very weird....

1. Shut up

2. Never send a political email. Emails are forever.

3. If you are using a company computer on a company server - everything you do is being monitored and will be used against you.

4. You are an “at will” employee. You can be fired at any time for almost any reason.

#1. Your employer owns the computer. #2 How the Hell do you know all these freaky sexually challenged individuals? #3 Your principles do not mean you have to answer this crap at work. #4 If your employer is THAT far into LGBGTAEIOU ? Maybe you need to find someplace that is not queer, Marxist, anti-Christian, anti American.

I don’t have an attorney recommendation for you, but as a former HR Manager, listen to the advice others have offered regarding doing your job and keeping your mouth shut about all things not work related. Also, find another job fast. Not likely an attorney can do much for you other than to completely destroy any chance of you getting another job.
