People love to ask pilots questions. But my favorite, and certainly the most interesting, is "Have you ever seen a UFO while flying?"
The answer is yes. And here's how it happened.
It was April 10, 1989 and early in my career. I was still a first officer at a regional airline. It was about 8 p.m. and we had just taken off from Kansas City International Airport bound for Waterloo, Iowa. It was a beautiful evening, with a full moon, clear skies and crisp early spring temperatures. The weather forecast for Waterloo was as nice, with clear skies and unlimited visibility.
After a short taxi and take-off, Air Traffic Control (ATC) cleared us to our cruise altitude of 15,000 feet. We established a Northeasterly heading, pointed strait at Waterloo, about 200 miles ahead. There were thin wispy clouds all around us, illuminated by the light of the full moon that shone through the captain's-side window at our left. Despite the presence of these clearly visible wispy clouds everywhere, we weren't flying through any of them. There was also a white disc dimly but clearly visible through those clouds just off to our right.
*snip*
We spent 20 to 30 minutes at our cruise altitude, all the while staring at this white disc dimly visible through some clouds that we somehow never seemed to fly through. Within about 40 miles of Waterloo, ATC confirmed the weather, still clear skies and unrestricted visibility at our destination as we began to descend. We got busy with our flying duties and for a short while, maybe for a minute, both of us had looked away from the disc, but when I looked up at it again I saw something that has been burned into my memory.

I don’t recall off hand who said it, might have been the master himself - Mr. Clarence “Kelly” Johnson, or someone that worked with him, but the gist of the comment was: we already have the ability to walk amongst the stars’.
A curious comment from days of old.
This is one of the best pilot/ufo accounts...Flight 1628

To think that they're here though is still an incredible stretch.
I sure would like to see one.
How could they come here in a vehicle that yet reflects light?
E=mc².
I photographed a trash can lid I'd flung into the air when I was about 15, and it was one of the best such photos of a "UFO" that I've seen before or since.
He said he was sitting on his back deck enjoying the sunshine and looking up into the sky when he spotted a silver object that was just hovering way up there. He said he just sat there watching it for about 20 minutes.......
But he said what was really eerie was the fact that he had no memory of watching it until a week later..........
Don't understand your question / problem. Why couldn't a FTL ship reflect light / be visible - after it has slowed down to manoever in the Earth's atmosphere?
E=mc².
So what?
Regards,
I watched several films on that Japan Air account. Pretty amazing testimony given.
No loss of memory. It kind of rattled me a little. Kinda like: wow, what the hell was that?
I figure what we know about creation and physics is probably about a thimble full of sand from about any beach or desert you care to name.
loved “Fire In The Sky” but I like CS Lewis’ space trilogy best.
Allan Hynek and Jacque Vallee eventually came to the conclusion that these so-called extraterrestrials were actually extra-dimensional.
Apparently once you ask if there is traffic, and there isn’t, they ask if you want to report a UFO?
I saw that in multiple recountings.
If there is no such thing, why do they ask the pilot so quickly if they saw something?
Still is. Buzz Aldrin. He’s said as much publicly. Alan Sheppard watched quite a show during the Gemini flights during his trip as the first American to orbit the Earth.
Tom Wolfe wrote about it in The Right Stuff.
and 2 subsequent encounters in the same airspace

While I would like to believe there are extraterrestrials flying these things, most likely they are all man made.
There is a book titled "Genesis" by W. A. Harbinson that I read many years ago. At the heart of "Genesis" is the question of who builds flying saucers and where they come from.
This was one of the best and thought provoking SciFi novels I have ever read..........
But those sorts of scenes are so impossible, not because there are no aliens coming here, but because they would be so far beyond our consciousness level that we would not be having 'conversations'.
Mine:
I was in junior high school and had the type of campus that was smaller buildings connected by covered walkways. I had to go from one building to another while classes were in, so I was by myself. It was a bright clear afternoon with no clouds and you could see the moon high up in the sky. I was facing north and the moon was at a high 10. So I was walking, looking at the moon for a second and noticed a smaller white ball just beneath the moon. I would say that from my perspective it was the size of a golf ball. I stopped and watched it because it wasn’t moving. I stood there for maybe 2 minutes and it never moved. I finally made it to the classroom I was heading to and told one of the teachers what I saw and we went back out to look for it and it was just gone.
When you hear John Callahan describe this incident, it leaves no doubt as to the veracity.
