The American Kennel Club is releasing its annual rankings of the popularity of different dog breeds.
THE TOP 10 FOR 2014:
1)Labrador retriever
2)German shepherd
3)Golden retriever
4)Bulldog
5)Beagle
6)Yorkshire terrier
7)Poodle
8)Boxer
9)French bulldog
10)Rottweiler
HOW THE LINEUP CHANGED:
The French bulldog entered the top 10 for the first time since the decade of the 1910s (the breed was ranked 11th in 2013). The dachshund dropped out; it was number 10 in 2013.

I have 2 labradoodles—best dogs I ever owned.
Thank you for your information. I would have never guessed a poodle. I guess I have a skeptical reaction when I think poodle. Will have to give this some thought. Yes, hubbie has asthma and dogs for the most part are out, but if the poodle is likely not to make him have a reaction, might have to rethink poodle. One more question. Does this bread, I’m thinking toy size for us, chew on furniture, get under food when walking? Any bad breed habits? Thanks for your help.
Currently a Border Collie/St Bernard mix, Belgian Sheepdog and Tri-Colored Collie. The herding breeds seem to be very intelligent and protective.
And once again the Shih Tzu and Pomeranian get screwed..its OK, I love my boys anyway :-)

You do realize that “mixed breeds” will still manifest the same genetic health problems as the purebreds that created them?
With a pure bred, you know what to watch for.
Mixed breeds tend to “surprise” you.
“Hybrid vigor” is but a cherished myth.

Bottom line is that the show breeders who have constantly disregarded health and function for fashionable form have created a nightmare for *all* dogs.
The scum of the earth has been mixing the larger Mastiff breeds with them to create even bigger fighting dogs.
A pox upon them.

A mutt still tends to be more healthy then a lot of the pure breeds. but bad genes is bad genes and is being inflicted by the puppy mills around the country
Maryland is attempting to outlaw the sale of puppies in pet shops *unless* they are shelter dogs.
That is good but MD is not really known for puppy mills.
If neighboring PA or WV had that law, it would be great.
Golden Retrievers have the prettiest faces.
This is one breed I have never heard of prior to your post. Very attractive looking dog. Hubbie lovingly calls this type of dog...dust mops.
