The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.
No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.
You are so full of ideas. Waste not, want not. Great idea.
Tubebender, do you have COPD or Heart problems. So good to hear Lady Bender is doing well. I know how good she feels, I had the same replacement.
Your gardens always look so good, and I’m jealous with envy. Some of mine look like something happened to them. But some do produce.
While it’s too early to plant outdoors, I’m moving my syrup pots to another spot in the back yard and the cut ends of water pipes I scrounged, fill them with good soil and stuff, dump the used soil onto the flower mound and around the garden shed. Gardening is so much fun.
I have a heart problem aggravated by a sudden lazy streak plus a bit of boredom plus being 81 has nothing to do with it according to whatshername...
Thanks for the pictures. It all looks good. Glad Lady Bender has made progress. Sorry you are not able to do more.
I love those flowers. Those grapes are tops for nutrition IIRC.
Could be. Stuff like that happens to me all the time
My daffy’s are under about a foot of leaves, so I have no idea of their status. Some nice day, I’ll go clear them off.
I am avoiding so many things, that it’s hard to find something to eat these days. LOL
My blood pressure has been too high for quite some time. It was controlled pretty well with meds until recently. So now I’m taking a second pill and it’s still going up. They tried some other meds, but I reacted badly and they had me quit those. So now it’s keep sodium at 1500 or less, and lose some weight, step up the exercise and see if we can nudge it down that way.
Also have some trouble with borderline lipids and high triglycerides, and last blood test sugar was a little high, so I am to restrict fats, keep saturated fat to 9grams (approximately 10%), and restrict carbs too.
I am tracking foods and exercise on Web MD, now. I often have calories left, but can’t figure out what to eat, because the sodium, sat. fat, and carbs are at the daily target already and what I have left is protein. Tuna would work, but due to Mercury, they advise restricting that to 1 can per week.
Skim milk might work, but my calcium levels are too high, so they have me restricting dairy too. I am methodically modifying my recipes to cut way back on all the sodium and sat. fat, this week, I substituted almond milk and made some protein smoothies, that weren’t too bad.
Thanks for the info and link explanation.
Good for you. My seeds are still sitting on the counter. May not get to them till next weekend.
Sorry about the heart problem, but not to worry, we all have seizures of laziness from time to time. Being 81 is a God Send. Enjoy your state of laziness, spring is just around the corner.
Thanks for the list. Some I knew about, but others I forgot or didn’t know.
And moved some semi-frozen pond muck from the staging heap to the sippy hole.
Around here , muck is considered essential for onions and related root crops, as it is rich in fiber and retains moisture
That would be all members of the allium family (onions), and other root crops.
Plug in your long-johns as climatologist, Joe Bastardi, is calling for a possible repeat of the winter of 1977, which includes snow and blizzards.

See it ,... and weep !!
Some of his documentation is over my head , and level of pay (retired), he is calling for a 'bear' of a winter thru mid April
Ignore him if you will, but he had been more accurate than Accuweather, or NOAA, and readily admits his mistakes.
This one he is sure of ... !
I covet your garden, ... but not your wildlife !
That's the highest praise I can give.
God has blessed you with an understanding and helpful companion, and a wondress garden.
You have been blessed !
I'm game!
Dear Garden FRiends,
I’m pretty excited! Just got word that the classes being offered for the 12 weeks which are the qualifying classes for Master Gardener are available to plebes like me who want the knowledge, but are not wanting to have the certification!
Darlin is even thinking about taking them with me!
Classes are even offered on a day that is mostly convenient for us!
I guess taking my nose dive into the marble floor was actually worth it! :-D
How wonderful! Hope you’re better soon....
Have a great time!
