The big Cold Front Nov 10, 2014
Self | 10 November, 2014 | Self

Posted on 11/10/2014 6:22:14 PM PST by MtnClimber

The cold front passed through Colorado today. I had a long drive home from Colorado Springs to NW of Golden. The roads had been warm so the snow initially melted, then froze when the temperature plummited. So many people driving way too fast. Saw so many wrecks and cars off in the ditch that I lost count. Near home the highway was closed for a while to clear a two-truck collision. Right now it is 10F. The wood-burning stove fireplace insert has a blazing fire and it is 70F inside. Anyone else here on FR affected by this cold front?

I love those guys too. They act as if they are immune to the law of physics.

F = m*v2. Did I get that right? Force and mass and velocity don't change. Resistance does.

Nope. Not prudent. I'll stay home and be libidinous. I'm qualified for that.

Math is hard.

Same area as you. Being retired I have no problem with winter.

I grew up in rural country and getting stuck in the middle of the night could mean a potentially deadly walk. Easier and safer to drive careful and get all the way home even if it took hours to drive a normal half hour trip.

By mid week here the high will barely reach 70. Time to get out are heavy winter coats. The low here will be near 48! We have a nice supply of snow on the mountains. That is where smart people keep their snow.

Snow snobs from the north are constantly reminding me that people like me in the south (DC area) don't know how to drive in the snow and they just hate living here because people drive so badly here.

They're even worse farther south. I'm in TN and they can be insufferable. BUT, they're usually the folks who wreck because they don't understand snowfall here - - when we have it. It isn't the same as up north. It falls, melts a little during the day, turns to ice overnight, and YEEEEHAAAA!

I learned years ago to just stay home if I can. I know how to drive on it but too many don't. Best to just stay out of their way.

its funny to me how people just can’t grasp the concept of driving on snow and ice...”

You should see how they drive in Houston the very few times we have had any snow or real ice. We do get a lot of black ice because of all the overpasses, however. People drive 70 mph until they get to the bridge or overpass, slam on their brakes, creep across and then it’s stomp on the pedal time. Just bizarre.

We also had a Blizzard of ‘78 here in MA.

It was brutal-—and I remember it as if it took place yesterday.

Down here in South Florida I was FREEZING a couple of hours ago but noticed that my air conditioner was set at 69 degrees so I reset it at 73 degrees so all is well now.

When I lived in Colorado it was the four wheelers of in the ditch most of the time...back then a lot of Texans had moved to Colorado...then the Californians moved in ....they ruined the state.....

Today I saw many wrecks and off in the ditch, but it was not too bad of a drive for my 100 mile drive home. I did not see a single accident happen around me and did not have to dodge anyone sliding across the highway. I have made that drive where I was constantly dodging sliding vehicles. That is no fun!

70 degrees here in the Sonoran Desert at 8:20 pm.
10 degrees west of Golden, Co.

THIS is reason I left Lakewood when I retired in 2002.
10 Freeking degrees Fahrenheit and snow.

Motorcycle weather in the desert, even though the roads ain’t got no curves, rivers ain’t got no water, We ain’t got no trees and the damn cactus is giving me the bird, I can still ride. Year round. Without long johns.

Lots of people from MA moved to Colorado too.

They ruined N.H. and they’re doing their best in CO.

That looks much like a mass accident on I-25 northbound just south of Denver last year, but could be different. I did not see anything like that today. Just lots of singles and doubles. They closed the ramp in Golden from 6th Ave to 470 tonight. There was also a 2-car wreck on the 470 to 6th ave ramp. Looked like a Cube got loose, got into the left barrier and then took out a SUV when bouncing across traffic.
