The big Cold Front Nov 10, 2014
Self | 10 November, 2014 | Self

The cold front passed through Colorado today. I had a long drive home from Colorado Springs to NW of Golden. The roads had been warm so the snow initially melted, then froze when the temperature plummited. So many people driving way too fast. Saw so many wrecks and cars off in the ditch that I lost count. Near home the highway was closed for a while to clear a two-truck collision. Right now it is 10F. The wood-burning stove fireplace insert has a blazing fire and it is 70F inside. Anyone else here on FR affected by this cold front?

Two more days to play golf in New England! After Wednesday, it’s a rapid plunge into the 30s by next week.

It was gorgeous and sunny here today in KC - it’s now very windy and cold. Welcome winter!

its funny to me how people just can’t grasp the concept of driving on snow and ice - or even more so, are unable to use caution for the potential of snow and ice.

Especially since I would bet most of the cars on the side of the road are probably locals - they should know better!

Was at home over the weekend in northern Idaho when the front passed through. A warmish, very rainy day turned in minutes to a violent windstorm giving way to clear skies and temperatures 20 degrees colder. That was in the space of about three hours. Power went out. Kerosene lantern inside the well-house so that wouldn't freeze. What fun!

This week we're looking at lows in the teens or single digits, highs well below freezing. A little soon for this nonsense. Come on, Global Warming!

Stay cozy by your fireside, MtnClimber. We are getting the cold norther here in TX during the night. The patio plants have been relocated to the sun room, and we’ll make a big pot of chili tomorrow, our traditional welcome to winter in Central Texas.

No snow yet here southwest of Omaha. The wind is howling and we are at wind chill of 13 degrees. It definitely feels like late fall. I sure wish I would have gotten the final mowing done on my yard yesterday when it was 60. That will be put off for at least a week the way it looks.

I changed the wheels/tires this weekend. I have a summer set and a winter set. The winter set has all season tires. I wish I had gone for the full winter tires even though they don’t last as long.

I think I’ve really only been stuck once and that time I knew I was done and simply got out and walked the last mile home.

One of those low speed lazy slides that turned me around and backed me down a steep bank nice and gentle.

Frankly, I’m hoping it hits MO tmo or next day when they make the Grand Jury non-charge announcement. Today was too warm @ high 60s for that. Tomorrow is a federal holiday so they may delay till Wednesday when it should be good and cold there.

Odd how just a little bit of distance makes so much difference. Here in northern Nevada we nearly hit 70 over the weekend, and it looks like 50s for the rest of the week.

Snow snobs from the north are constantly reminding me that people like me in the south (DC area) don't know how to drive in the snow and they just hate living here because people drive so badly here.

My stock answer is a variation of, "Gee, that last snowstorm I saw on the news from Minneapolis sure did show a lot of cars in the ditch and in wrecks of all descriptions. It looks like northerners can't drive in the snow." I have never gotten much of a response as they slowly slink away.

75, sunny and quite breezy here in mid Missouri. The forecast is for big cold after midnight. All the stuff from the veggie garden was removed last week. Let the vines go.

Many years ago, we lived in Golden, coming back from duty overseas...
