I work about a mile from the Smithsonian museums and like every good Washingtonian, I never visit the famous sites. Today, being Labor Day, and having nothing else to do, I decided to go the Smithsonian Museum of American History. In one area they had a poll, taken by the museum visitors (how many thousands would that be?), voting for the greatest president in history. George Washington came in first, Abraham Lincoln second, Barak Obama third. I always thought "my jaw dropped" was just a fanciful expression, but my jaw DID drop. Reagan, by the way was 4th.
Obamacare will not be repealed and amnesty is forever. With $17 trillion in debt and over $100 trillion in unfunded liabilities, we are living way beyond our means and will saddle our progeny with unimaginable debt that will drive the standard of living down. And our changing demographics will Balkanize and divide this country as never before.
He’s also Nobel Peace Prize winner.
Don’t feel defensive about it! You live in a beautiful city. I live in NYC and I get pure hell each and every day from freepers, lol. Tough! I like it for other things that have nothing to do with politics.
To coin a cliché...I love New York! My brother was an actor for thirty years and I often visited him in Manhattan. LOVE the city! Its energy is amazing.

The Smithsonian is a hotbed of agitation for every hard left idea to ever come down the pike. The stories I could tell...
I really don’t see why Obama came in third. Neither George Washington nor Abraham Lincoln ever won the Nobel Peace Prize.
I always wonder about presidential rankings. They are inevitally ideologically based in their outcomes. I mean what makes a great president? I would argue that a great president presides over one or more of the following:
A great military victory
Expansion of U.S. territory
A great period of growth and prosperity
A righting of some great wrong (slavery)
..to a lesser degree a time when great projects were initiated and completed, which led to future properity or national pride.
Much of this is nebulous. We landed on the moon six months after Nixon became president, can't give him much credit for that.
Conversely, and probably more frequently, presidents screw things up through government meddling, regulation and squandering of public resources. I give presidents who don't screw things up more credit than most people. Hence the Harding thing. He died before the screw ups could happen, and he DID give us Coolidge.

America has seen her fair share of corrupt Presidents, but our 29th President may top the list. Although President Warren G Harding lasted less than two years in office, he managed to find himself in multiple scandals that may have taken down his Presidency if he hadn't suddenly died while visiting the Western states. President's are not above the law, but Mr. Harding sure thought that he would test that issue to the limit.
Fonzie’s jacket wasn’t on display! I asked them about that, ‘cause the last time I’d been there (a billion years ago) they had a great “entertainment” section. They said it was being refurbished and would be back at sometime in the future. All that was there from that past exhibit was Archie Bunker’s Chair and Dorothy’s ruby slippers.

Oh, yeah, the Star Spangled Banner is also not on display any more (used to be the first thing you saw when you walked in). The museum guy told me that the light and camera flashes were destroying it. I do think it is trotted out every day, however, at a certain time. They also took away that great pendulum that used to hang at the entrance of the museum.

Interesting! I interviewed Joe of “Hollywood Treasures” (canceled) TV series a few years back and he said the ‘actual shot’ slippers have not really yet been found; he said they’re the ‘holy grail’ of movie props!
Well, I was thinking that more elementary school kids probably visit the museum than any other social group so their teachers probably spew the name whenever they can. He is on television every day he can unless golf is more important.
An interesting question would be how long they have been taking the poll. If they have done so for the last 50 years the survey may have meaning.
The sign under the slippers at the Smithsonian said there were several pairs. The slippers at the Smithsonian were the ones used for dancing on the yellow brick road (they had special felt on the bottoms to disguise the noise).
Obama had that position when he got his Nobel Prize. Once he started with the change he had in mind for what used to be the greatest country in the history of the world, he never made it up to third from the bottom.
Although he made some bad choices in picking men for his administration, he also had some excellent Cabinet officers. He was the first President to go to the South and speak out against racial segregation.
