Good grief, jarwulf, who do you mean by "we"? I don't know one person who "accepts" "beating each other to a pulp in the ring, drinking our guts out, and people sawing off their private parts" --
A list of evils. Acceptance of such shows a corrupt mind.
If they think ‘50 Shades’ is worth the ‘stop and think’ button, possibly, those same readers should go back and read, if they have forgotten it, “The Story of O”.
(IMHO, the first story has been re-packaged, the author forgotten, and released as 50 Shades of Grey.)
It’ll take more than that .I’m thinking six months worth of therapy .
There’s many graphic reviews of this book on GoodReads.com from young women who don’t fit your “feminist prudes want butch women” model. Some women object to the female’s stupidity and weakness. Some lament the popularization of beatings and humiliation. It’s not just “bad people” object, “open minded” people tolerate.
Some of us have time in our day to worry about more than the top 3 influences on our society so I will skip your “advice” on what should concern me. This book sold 100 million copies and is going on to be a big movie venture. It’s on the radar of many people, it’s not some little cultural drop in the bucket. It’s a new, popular low point.
And, people wonder how the one got elected....
******************************
We haven't decided that. Have you? Do you support the homosexual agenda?
No kidding.
The only reason its as popular as it is is because of all the controversy. Its not like its fans are going to throw a pride parade down mainstreet. All in all its pretty obvious FSG is escapist sexual fantasy and roleplaying not meant as some feelgood book of morals for little children. The person who is weakminded enough to mistakenly take it as such probably isn’t going to have an easy life in any case. There is plenty of leftwing activism actively trying to intrude upon our lives but many conservatives/’libertarians’ would rather try to wrestle some adult lady’s book away along with the liberals.
Or garbage just sells well in the vacuum left behind when decency becomes a “bad thing.”
Your time line is wrong - it became popular despite the controversy. Your “morals for little children” is obviously a straw man argument. People objected to porn going mainstream for obvious reasons. But, as you are so protective of this book and willing to make insulting remarks about anyone who disagrees with you, you can count yourself among the “enlightened” people who support it.
When did we decide that?
Those feces-ingesting perverts push their sickness in our faces every day now. Therefore it's our business.
Okay, ‘fess up. You read that poorly written dreck and you liked it...am I right?
Like I’ve told the grandkids....”What you put in your head, is what you’ll get out of life”.....garbage in, garbage out.
I’m a dude so I have no interest in reading it from front to back but in all the parts I’ve seen cited as being awful there is nothing so dangerous we need to shield adults from it. There are far more offensive books out there than some fictitious man spanking a fictitious women. Before you tell me I need to read the entire series cover to cover, I’d like to remind you that the burden of proof is on you to prove that the books are a menace to society.
In the end I’m wondering what conservatives hope to accomplish by helping liberals and feminists tighten their control on the media. Broadening the definition of ‘criminal sexual abuse’ to include consensual belt spanking and removing books simply because fictional characters in a fictional world don’t behave like you think a welladjusted person should seems like fascist leftwing goals to me.
My mistake.
"but in all the parts Ive seen cited as being awful there is nothing so dangerous we need to shield adults from it. There are far more offensive books out there than some fictitious man spanking a fictitious women. Before you tell me I need to read the entire series cover to cover,"
I don't want to read it, so why would I insist you do so?
" Id like to remind you that the burden of proof is on you to prove that the books are a menace to society."
Well, it might be...if I had made any such claim, that is. You want to show me where I did?
"In the end Im wondering what conservatives hope to accomplish by helping liberals and feminists tighten their control on the media. Wow, you're throwing false accusations all over the place, aren't you? Did you even read the article? It's written by a Christian who is advising other Christians to think twice before reading it. Why do you have a problem with that, and how does it fall into the category of trying to control the media/practice "fascist leftwing goals?"
who said anything about removing or banning it?
LOL, that’s what I want to know.
You are quite a treat. A real charmer I’m sure.
Enjoy your fantasy, seems to fit your lifestyle.
When exactly did WE decide that the sodomite agenda is "none of our business"? Now, your use of acronyms certainly indicates that YOU have decided this and your other comments on this thread indicate that YOU support this agenda.
Frankly most of the anger toward these books is from puritanical feminists who feel every single woman, even all the fictional ones must behave like their idea of an assertive brash dominant real woman.
Spoken like a true leftist.
Warning Christians about the filth the left puts out is hardly "helping liberals and feminists tighten their control on the media."
Broadening the definition of criminal sexual abuse to include consensual belt spanking and removing books simply because fictional characters in a fictional world dont behave like you think a welladjusted person should seems like fascist leftwing goals to me.
Sooner or later, EVERY leftist troll on this forum compares Christians who promote Christian values to fascists or the Taliban.
You clearly don't belong here.
It is bondage rape porn. Bondage rape porn that is for some reason celebrated as “woman’s porn”.
Chew on that for a bit.
