Cooling trend could be on the way unless thwarted by greenhouse gasses
LOS ALAMOS, New Mexico, February 28, 2011—There’s an old saying that if you don't like the weather in New Mexico, wait five minutes. Maybe it should be amended to 10,000 years, according to new research.
In a letter published recently in the journal Nature, Los Alamos National Laboratory researchers and an international team of scientists report that the Southwest region of the United States undergoes "megadroughts"—warmer, more arid periods lasting hundreds of years or longer. More significantly, a portion of the research indicates that an ancient period of warming may be analogous to natural present-day climate conditions. If so, a cooler, wetter period may be in store for the region, unless it is thwarted by increased concentrations of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere that could warm the planet.
Using a long core of sediments obtained in 2004 from beneath a dry lakebed located on the Valles Caldera National Preserve—an 86,000-acre grassland located on the site of a dormant prehistoric volcano about 20 miles west of Los Alamos—the researchers were able to peer back in time into the climate as it existed between 360,000 and 550,000 years ago. Layers in the 260-foot-long sediment core were easily distinguishable, and were bounded by distinct layers of volcanic ash that allowed for very accurate dating. Researchers looked at chemical constituents trapped within the layers as well as plant and pollen debris to characterize the climate conditions of the time.
The sediment layers from beneath the South Mountain Lake covered two "interglacial" periods. Such periods are significant because they represent a time between ice ages when warmer temperatures mimicked present-day temperatures.

There seems to be an enormous knowledge vacuum that started in the 1960s. This is one of any number of "scientific studies" I've read in the past few years that's just a rehash and technical update of long-established data.

Why, the implied voodoo AGW, of course. The earth can't possibly be generating these cycles all by itself.
Their models, none of which have ever been right... written by morons who know even less about statistics and programming than they appear to know about climate. That's where they get their neurotic "predictions." OOooops. A thousand pardons; Since they have always been wrong, The IPCC no longer is allowed to call them predictions

Why don't we just take those computers away from the frauds? Apes playing with high tech with very big mouths and absolutely, positively no advancement to any known science. All they have managed to do after thirty years is discover a method of generating lots of heat with absolutely no light!

It must be a government rule that any "scientific" document or report put out by any agency receiving federal funds must qualify the results with the above absurd statement.
Some day that will be laughed at just as we today laugh at those publishing in Galileo's time were required to adhere to the church's line that every astronomical observation somehow had to be explained in terms of the sun revolving around the earth.
You’ve summed up science reporting incredibly well.
Of course not, because nobody may ever know. The only thing we know for certain is what has happened in the past.
And that the cause of the dozens of previous extremes and reversals cannot have been, under any circumstances, anthropogenic global warming. That has already happened and is really beyond debate. The Goron and pals, please take note.
