It’s not that Africa is shown as being too small on the majority of world maps, as Statista’s Martin Armstrong explains below, it’s how almost every other part of the world has been artificially inflated.
If we want someone to blame for this distortion, then we need look no further than the year 1569 when the cartographer Gerardus Mercator devised a solution to the problem of representing a globe on a 2D map’s surface.
Mercator’s projection was revolutionary and invaluable for nautical navigation, but in the modern era, is outdated and wildly inaccurate. You can see this for yourself quite easily – taking a look at this accurate infographic – you can see how almost the entire length of Russia fits into the African continent when turned by 90 degrees.

Now go to Google Maps (or wherever you satisfy your cartographic needs) and measure the length of Russia with your hand, comparing to Africa.
It doesn’t fit, and it isn’t even close.
The Mercator-based distortion makes the country appear roughly twice as long from West to East as Africa is from North to South.

It’s 100% correct on my globe. Nothing shocking about it. We know that Greenland appears huge on flat maps. So this breathless “discovery” is a waste of breath.
Its true. Africa is the motherland of all humanity. It is huge. And it will eat you up , you are only a skin bag of red meat.
Cool graphics but for the most part they are comparing countries to a continent. Apples to Oranges.
Mercator knew FAR MORE than me about maps and if his maps show Russia much larger than Africa, then that’s that truth, as far as I’m concerned.
The most shocking thing to me is that the US has almost as much land mass as China. I thought it was larger since they have so many people.
You and I were taught this in 4th Grade Geography class.
Today's students are being taught so much social justice and gender identity crap that there is no time left in the day to teach these simple facts.
So it probably is shocking to the millenials and younger.

Brazil is almost the same size as the USA with only 200 million people. There are more (self-identified) Black people in Brazil than any other country outside Africa.
I was talking to a guy from Malaysia on the internet last week. I was asking him how so many people could live in such a small place. He then told me to get a globe and showed me how big the country really is. It’s length stretches across the same distance as the USA. Those equator countries can be bigger than they seem
Another suprising stat, The island of Java has a larger population than Russia, the largest country in the world.
All those natural resources, yet, not a single black run country there is any good.
