In 2010, researchers and conservators from the Antarctic Heritage Trust of New Zealand made quite the interesting discovery. Hidden beneath the hut legendary explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton used during his 1908 Antarctica expedition (known as the Nimrod) were five crates covered in ice: three containing whisky and two containing scotch! This wasn’t the only discovery made by the Trust either; they also found a notebook and photos from similar expeditions on the continent.

After the whisky was discovered, one crate was sent to New Zealand where it was thawed and displayed for the public at Canterbury Museum. Three of the bottles from the crate were given to the owner of Whyte & Mackay, the maker of the brand of whisky found in Shackleton’s hut. There, Whyte & Mackay’s master blender was able to create an exact replica of the whisky, giving whisky connoisseurs a chance to taste the historic booze and helping to fund the Trust’s work (a share of the proceeds from the whisky were donated to the Trust).
Shackleton’s hut where the whisky was found is quite historic. It was the home base during Shackleton’s Nimrod Expedition from 1907-1909, where a party of five was the first to climb the world’s southernmost volcano (Mt Erebus). Shackleton also lead a group of four on a trek to reach the South Pole, making it further than any explorers had previously.

Similar thing happened to me yesterday. I found a bottle of whiskey in the wine rack that I’d put there last week. The difference is we didn’t get a special deal for it so we just drank it.
Is it the alcohol that causes the seizures? If not, try Tequila. The finer varieties of tequila blow scotch away, quite frankly.
If the bottles were sideways, the plugs would not dry out. (Corks in whiskey at that time, or ever? Wine? Yes. Whiskey?)

No, they think it’s an old head injury. I can’t even use NyQuil.
I have finally gotten to see a doctor at the University of Virginia Seizure Center and he wants to do an MRI and something else.
I’m arguing with the insurance company now trying to get them to approve it.
The insurance company said that I haven’t had a recent head trauma then it isn’t covered. Also since any head trauma was at least 1 year past it isn’t life threatening so it isn’t covered.
They are actually afraid that testing will show brain damage that can be corrected by surgery.
If that is found then they will be on the hook for the surgery.
I wish it was something correctable because the meds really suck the energy out of me.
The level of meds needed to control the seizures carry the risk liver damage as well.
Oh well, such is life.
The last drink I had was when I ran across an old friend.
We went to a bar and worked on their DeWars stock (his favorite) and dented one bottle pretty badly.
Good times.
