Pro-Paul group unleashes fiery attack ad
The Hill ^ | May 29, 2015 | Ben Kamisar

A super PAC backing Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) is pulling no punches with the first attack ad of the 2016 GOP presidential primary, complete with fire-breathing bald eagles and slams of Sens. Ted Cruz and Lindsey Graham for their stances on government surveillance.

Mimicking the aggressive style of a wrestling event promo, the one-minute spot teases the Senate debate Sunday ("Sunday! Sunday!") over expiring portions of the Patriot Act as the “greatest brawl for liberty of the century."

The ad, released by America's Liberty PAC, pits a photoshopped picture of Paul’s face on a bodybuilder against President Obama, “the head of the Washington spy machine.”

It also needles Obama’s “so-called conservative accomplices,” Cruz (R-Texas) and Graham (R-S.C.). Cruz, referred to by the super PAC as the “capitulating Canadian” as a dig against the fact that the GOP candidate was born in the country, supports a compromise bill called the USA Freedom Act.

Graham, an ardent supporter of government surveillance programs, is shown trying “to read your emails while doing donuts in a 1997 Geo Metro while it’s on fire.”

The overblown ad highlights the divide in the Senate over these expiring programs.

Paul successfully blocked all efforts by the Senate late last week to temporarily renew programs that allow the warrantless data collection of Americans’ phone calls and to agree on a compromise measure. That gives the body just hours during a special Sunday session to negotiate a solution before the programs expire.

Paul has been taking flack from his party this week over the move, with Graham’s Senate ally and 2008 GOP presidential nominee Sen. John McCain accusing him of blocking the deal to drum up support for his campaign.

He also drew the ire of rivals with his assertion that Republican hawks stoked the rise of Islamic militants, prompting GOP Govs. Bobby Jindal (La.), Chris Christie (N.J.) and Scott Walker (Wisc.) to strike back, with Jindal referring to him as “unsuited” for the presidency.

For Cruz to give Obama a slim majority on that secret trade deal undermines everything he supposedly stands for.

Rand Paul is and always has been a demagogue and Democrat in all but name, just like his father is and always has been.

He kept all his shills. They’re easy to recognize — they’re the ones who pop up in topics, exploding with nonsequiturs about how there’s no point voting, etc, IOW, just DNC astroturf. Just like the Pauls.

I’ve noticed the same.

The usual suspects who state no point in voting or use slogans of no Govt should tell you bla bla.

My take is that folks are riled up about TPA without knowing what it truly does. There has been a lot of confusion between TPP and TPA. We need to wait and see how these play out as far as any Trade Deals go. Congress and the public will have a chance to look at these bills for 60 days before Congress votes them up or down.

There has to be a reason that Dems voted against the bill and almost all Conservatives voted in favor. Since when have the Dems been on the right side of an issue?

I trust Cruz’s judgement. I further believe that by the time this bill makes it back from the House to the Senate for reconciliation, it will contain the language that Cruz proposed about immigration law.

Here's the problem. Let's say the bill when it comes up in the US Senate and HOR does not have the conservative demands. Then all Obama has to do is get a different set of suckers to vote for it.

Besides that, Cruz gave Obama a victory by voting on the bill BEFORE it was made public. Another issue, another narrow majority.

I think this is a case where we conservatives are on a different page from leadership that wants the cheap labor markets for their corporate sponsors. And the dems voted the way they did because the bill will cost yet more US jobs.

It looks like you share my view that “libertopianism” is really anarchy guised as reason.

I think the main reason why Rand Paul’s collage pot smoking punks oppose govermemt servalliance program is that they don’t want to get caught doing nefarious things.

The analogy can be bought into this with what happened in Baltimore where Mosby over played her hand convicting those Baltimore police officers, and now the politicans in Baltimore including Mosby all have egg on their face.

so your way of debating Paul is to post a very unflattering picture of him? I’m sure he’s the only person to shake sharpton’s hand
